I have seen a lot of women in leggings and BOY do they look awful. I think if you are the least bit overweight be sure and buy them in sizes that are a little loose.

In Women with Control and Logo leggings, I wear size small.  In Yummie leggings, I wear size large.  For me, the leggings with higher compression require that I go up one or two sizes.
