I absolutely won't buy clothing that doesn't give me a smile and I'm excited that I bought it. Unless it's underwear or the necessary basic, if I don't absolutely love it, there's no way!!!
When in your closet, how often have you bought to soothe a hurt or make due?

Never. I try on before purchase.

I used to, but have not in years. Sometimes I think I love something only to realize days later that I have still not pulled it out to wear. If that's the case, back it goes. Unless it is something out of season or for dressy occasions, if it doesn't excite me enough to wear right away, I return it.
In addition to loving something I also need to make sure it goes with at least 3 other items in my closet.

Have to admit, I've done just that, if there was a good sale. Then, I end up donating the items.

@ECBG As the pictures I sent you show I buy way too many clothes. However, all that I kept I really like.
That said, I have to watch myself because I have my favorites that are comfortable and I find myself going toward those too often.
Hope you have a wonderful day. Love you

I suppose I have, but I reach a saturation point with stuff and don't buy anymore. I think it may depend on a level which is different for people.
I have what I consider to be an abundance of clothes right now, but I love the richness of it all. Sometimes I wear a jacket in the back yard for five minutes and feel like it was worth buying.

I don't feel like I have to absolutely love everything I buy and wear. Sometimes it a matter of covering one's naked body in the most attractive and expedient way possible.

Yes, I've bought clothes that I end up not liking for some reason or another. I have a brown pair of ponte di roma skinny pants that had a back ankle zipper on each leg. Well the first time I wore it the zipper tape was irritating the back of my legs. I used a seam ripper to remove the zipper and resewed the seam but I still don't like them very much. I think that's because I don't really like brown pants. They are going into the donation bag. I have some crossover v neck tops and some pull and gape at the neckline when I'm wearing them. I tried them all on and the ones that bothered me got the heave ho.

Not often, altho I'll admit to a mistake now and then. I want to love all my clothes!
You've heard this saying...
"Women wear 20% of their clothes 80% of the time."
If I was any indication, I believe it...80% of my clothes just hung there! I started looking for what I call 20% clothes LOL!
I've also learned to listen to myself when I'm shopping. Two thoughts are huge red flags for me...if I see something and my first thought is either:
1. Even though this has yellow in it and it's a little too long, would you look at that sale price???? OR
2. This is a very...interesting item!
Now, I don't care if it's $5 and/or it's the most interesting piece of clothing I've ever seen, if it's not something I love and will wear often...20% clothing...back on the rack it goes!
Just back away MacDuff and nobody will go broke or have buyer's remorse!
