I agree.  So many of them have no credibility.   QVC pushes their hosts as the viewer's friend, they love us, ask for our opinions on Facebook, tell us they are honest, share all sorts of personal and  family tidbits and push their faith.  If they had any respect for their audience/customers they wouldn'nt turn around and tell fibs and totally contradict themselves. If they own all the cr@p they peddle or buy everything at NM, that's fine, but quit acting like used car salesmen.  Yes, they are there to sell, but at least give your audience a little more credit.

It seems to me that all the hosts' sales tactics have become more "hard sell" in the past few years. That rubs me the wrong way. Whether someone is trying to sell me a big-ticket item or something inexpensive, if the salesperson high-pressures me, l'm outta there!

when hosts present items do you want or expect them to say "oh I would never buy leather if they're presenting a leather jacket?"  They are there to sell and the Q encourages them to do or say whatever necessary to make those sales.

And just tell me why does all the hateful criticism have to be about Shawn?  It's constant on these boards just like it was about Lisa R.   Every host on the Q uses sales tactics because that is their JOB but no one complains about them.....it's always Shawn said this, Shawn did this, etc. etc.  Have any of you ever watched Jane RT?  How about how inappropriate Albany is when she's on with any male vendor especially Liam?

Why don't you all just give Shawn a break, it's really getting old and disrespectful.  I doubt that you are all perfect and have no flaws or ever make mistakes.  Maybe you should think about it before you post such hurtful and hateful remarks.

Some things never change around here.  So it's okay for you to say hurtful things about Jane Treacy and Albany (I've read them myself) but no one better dare say anything about LR or SK?  Maybe you should try and remember how disrespectful and old some of your tirades are about certain hosts and keep in mind that they aren't perfect either, have flaws and are going to make mistakes.

For the records, I don't really care one way or the other what Shawn said about those jackets.  I also seriously doubt that TPTB are telling the hosts to say anything to make a sale.

it really doesn't affect me what the hosts say one way or the other.  i sort of tune them out.  i'm looking at the item and i decide whether i like it or not and if the price is good.

i do like some hosts better than others, but it's just like me picking out my own friends.

I have often wondered how it must feel to be a salesperson, in this case a

QVC host, and honestly wouldn't be caught dead in an item.

I was a fan of Lisa Robertson, and there were times when I just knew she

wouldn't ever wear something that she had to peddle.

She would say something like "now this is just easy dressing...."

There are many models also that must realize some of the clothing they

are wearing look unflattering.  But hey, in the end, it's a job, right?

I am a size 14-16, and I usually check out Jackie when she models because

we have similar builds.  She is a beautiful young woman--and I could be her

mother, however!

Regarding some of the hosts--I can imagine there is a lot of pressure

to sell, sell, sell.  It does amaze me that the shouting or frenetic style of

selling actually works.

I saw comments stating people to back off the criticsm of SK.  This is fair, but there is a larger issue.  I think the reality is, she is on so frequently and the Q has made her so highly visable to us that it is hard to avoid her personal sales techniques.  I caught this presentation on the GILI jackets and she said the exact same thing this morning that she said to IM Monday night (2 days ago)..."avoiding leather jackets because they are man-ish looking" until "this jacket arrived..."  If a host owns three $300 leather jackets, it by no means influences my decision to purchase, and most certainly not in the case of most overpriced GILI items.

  • Yes, I know I could change the channel but I like IM and Halston presentations. Being on vacation for most of two weeks I like to veg out and watch the Q, but admittedly will change to the other channel when the sales pitches get a little "thick" if you know what I mean.

I think the hosts get lots and lots of samples and healthy discounts. So when a host says she "owns" an item I assume it was free or quite a bit cheaper than I would've paid. So I take that kind of talk for what it is...sales tactic.

Re: Host sales tactics

[ Edited ]

Go to the QVCtv channel on youtube to watch various hosts wearing and talking about the G.I.L.I. leather jacket A 256717. It's very interesting to compare the host's selling style as they wear this jacket. Someone posted a link to last night's presentation with Shawn and the link to the one from Dec. 2014 where Lisa Robertson and Shawn were working together to sell the jacket. Shawn clearly said a year ago on air that she owned 3 of those jackets including the blue one so unless she gave the blue one away and bought another blue one a week ago, her facts don't add up.

There are also clips on QVCtv on youtube of Jayne Brown and Jill Martin selling the same jacket too. This is the leather jacket that the hosts and Jill said to size up on -- probably after the reviews came in on this jacket. I do think it's interesting to compare Lisa's selling style with Jill Martin's selling style just from watching the youtube videos of them selling the same jacket.

JCF.........You didn't want the vionic slippers that you zeroed in on because of a caller that asked Shawn how she was doing?  Sorry, but that is just ridiculous.  If you want to buy something that you really like, why would you care about a caller asking Shawn a question?  Did you think that Shawn may deliver them to your home, since by your post it was Shawn that made you change your mind.  I just can't believe you would even post something like this.

LipstickDiva.......first of all I was not disrespecting Jane, I state and stand by my statements that she constantly talks about her family every single show she does and sometimes so much so that there's no time to describe the item.  I am certainly not the only one who has posted this.  As far as Albany is concerned, again I will say it and it has been said by many.....she acts inappropriately with male vendors.  My posts are not hurtful they are facts.

And and if you don't believe TPTB are advising these hosts what to say or approve, you are so mistaken.  These hosts would be out of jobs so fast or would never utter their sales  pitches if the Q didn't approve.
