Say what you will, but these days safety rules in my world. I often wear this Aimee Kestenberg bag when I will be out and about alone. It can be worn as a belt bag or a sling bag and under a jacket if need be.

This is how I've been seeing them worn lately,  as opposed to around the waist. It's how I wear my Rebecca Minkoff tomato red leather one. It's not only practical but stylish, IMO, and a nice alternative to a crossbody. It fits just what I need for a quick trip to the grocery store.

ITA with you "safety" ladies for sure!   For Christmas I bought my DD and myself an IHKWIP PPE crossbody/carrier.  It is RFID and can be worn different ways also.  We both love them and I plan on using mine when traveling mostly.  DD uses hers everyday as she does not carry a purse at all.    Item A396854  but FYI I ended up purchasing on their own website as it was a few dollars cheaper per bag, more color options and free shipping, which I realize the Q has today.   IHKWIP dot com.

I had a fanny pack/belt bag, whatever you want to call them, when I was a teacher. Absolute necessity IMO on field trips. It allowed me not to worry about my handbag. Worrying about my students was more important. I also carried a backpack with student emergency info & medicines.

don't think I'd ever wear one diagonally across my body like they're showing now though.

I have several "fanny pack" bags.  I don't like pants with pockets - so these "work" perfectly for me when I only need my keys and credit cards.

(I only carry my phone if I'm going to a meeting / out to eat and need access to calendar.  If I'm shopping - I'm not answering a phone!)

The fanny pack is functional not fashionable....you may not find it stylish, but it will never go out of production as it fulfills a need in people's activities.

@phoenixbrd they can be both!!!

Yes indeed @magicmoodz .  I'd wear it like this if not on my waist.

Depending on the time of the year, I wear one while running or hiking. Mainly use when it's warmer and I don't have a jacket packet I can use to slip all my stuff into. I don't consider it a fashion item tho ... like others have written ... I use mine for safety. I do not wear on my back, would defeat the purpose for me. I wear mine in front, for easy access and also so I don't hit it with my arms when I'm running.
