She starred as Elizabeth I in a HBO mini series in 2005.
And now, Helen Mirren is back on HBO as another major female ruler - Catherine The Great.
On Thursday, the British actress headlined a special screening for series at LA's Hammer Museum.
Mirren, who won an Oscar for her portrayal of Elizabeth II in The Queen, plays the legendary Empress of Russia in the four-part series premiering on the premium subscription channel on October 21.
Joining Mirren at the screening was her co-star Jason Clarke who plays military leader and statesman - and Catherine's longtime lover - Grigory Potemkin.

Thanks for posting. Mirren looks stunning. The colors are striking and enhance her as does the clothing, clutch, and that extraordinary jewelry. She looks mature and youthful, sexy yet subdued, and confident.

I think Helen looks fantastic.
The gown really suits the whole theme of her new series. The color looks great on her and compliments her coloring beautifully. Her makeup and hair are perfect.
Plus that necklace!!
And let's not forget Jason Clarke who is a handsome escort.

@lmt et al, I saw this series. It was the first time I saw Helen Mirren that I didn’t think she was spectacular. The series was good, not great. I thought she was too old for the part but that may be just me. I remember Catherine Zeta Jones playing Catherine the Great and couldn’t get that out of my head.
I will be interested to hear what others think. LM
PS, isn’t she stunning in this photo? No idea how old she is but she wears it so well!
