You are on track. That cowboy coat and Elaine on Seinfeld. Absolutely.
I loved their catalogs so much, I'd take one with me to read while in the tub!

Yes, it was the "Horseman's Duster" I wanted!
I had seen it in an ad in the New York Times, or perhaps the Wall Street Journal way back when. In those days, I had to scan 8 newspapers in the morning and select all the relevant articles for the head of my agency to read.
This, of course, was pre Internet.
But, that ad sparked my interest and, at one time, I used to get their catalog.
It was a great read, even if you weren't buying!

You know, @Witchy Woman, I've often wondered why other retailers don't use a similar approach. The copy in Peterman's catalogs would always take you away to a world you wished you lived in, and I think it could be done with Denim & Co as well as it could with one of Peterman's Russian Navy tees.
Wait a minute. Does Russia really have a navy?
They do. Of course they do.
Watch the news on TV tonight. If they're wearing striped shirts like this, it's the Russian Navy.
Unless you see a dark-eyed girl paddling a green boat and her boyfriend laughs and smokes and laughs and his cigarette is slightly less than 1” long and permanently attached and he is wearing a not-bad-looking striped navy shirt, then it’s France.
Unless it's New York.
But if the girl and her boyfriend are both blonde, and pale smoky-eyed, and he, you notice, is deeply tanned and wearing a striped navy shirt, then it's Finland.
Or the island of Sylt.
Or Krk.
Or Sukhumi.
Under a suit jacket, it's L.A. Or maybe Munich.
But when they're both wearing striped navy shirts, it's Zihuatanejo. Or Sochi.
If there are two girls and one boyfriend and all three are wearing striped navy shirts, then it's definitely Russia.
Unless it's Central Park.

Yep, much better than talking "back-fat," "belly-budge," jiggle-wiggle, butt lift and all the other assorted and sundry drivel that is discussed when the fast-talking hosts are trying to convince us we need a circus tent to cover our bodies
And, while they are at it, they can save the "dress it up or down" spiel, too!

Very well said, @Witchy Woman
You're hired!

Hey! is J. Peterman BACK???? I adored every catalog and read every single item over and over!
I still have that fabulous Red Riding Coat that was so very expensive on a beginning teacher's salary, but I bought it, finally.....and its still my favorite thing ever!
Hope they are in business again! I would be over-the-moon!

If you never have, you should read a J. Peterman catalog at least once. The descriptions used to describe the products go way beyond fit and fabric. Unlike the blah blah blah of telling you where to wear it, every item has an exotic story.
I haven't ordered anything for a few years, but almost everything I have ordered through the years has seemed nearly indestructible.

After a long time of receiving Peterman catalogues, I ordered something. It was awful in person-canceled the catalog...Seinfeld was a stroke of genius!
