Had to happen: the ex-boyfriend shirt

I was looking for plaid shirts and found this delightfully-named (and attractive) shirt called the "Madewell ex-boyfriend shirt" on the Nordstrom site. (The Madewell site has other versions.)

I expect some of you have already discovered it.  I wonder when this term was first used on a retail site.   I know "boyfriend shirt" has been around forever, but I hadn't seen "ex-boyfriend shirt" before.  Then again, I wasn't actually looking.

Clever marketing.  I love the name.

I like it....as long as an ex-boyfriend doesn't come with it.

I wish everyone would drop naming any clothing item with a reference to a guy. Seems sexist to me in a strange, perverted way.

@GingerPeach      Stupid question:  What is the difference between a boyfriend shirt and an ex-boyfriend shirt???

I was thinking that very thing.  It's not clear whether the name is in popular use or whether they have a legal restriction on its use.  I didn't find that a trademark application was filed.  We shall see.  I kind of hope the Joan Rivers line will be able to use it.

@Boehm Collector

Since this was my first time seeing the term, I'm not perfectly sure, but it seems, from some of the item descriptions, they are described as even straighter in cut and longer than the "normal" boyfriend shirt.

I expect the terms are used very loosely and there may or may not be any difference.
