Whenever my father had a medical procedure, all of his specialists had to sign off on it before it could be done. I wonder if, because Joan has had anesthesia so many times, that no one had concerns about it, even at her age.

Seriously?

The thing that I think makes Joan's situation so shattering to me is that it's a huge reminder of just how sudden anyone's life can change. We don't know why it happened, but it's normal to question it. Knowing why she arrested and suddenly went from vibrant and active to comatose could possibly help someone else avoid having the same thing happen. Maybe, maybe not, but there are privacy laws that may not allow the general public to know everything.

No one likes to think of having something like this happen to anyone, but having this happen to Joan just puts it out there anyway and we have to face the facts that it can!

I don't mean this to be disrespectful in the least, but I just keep thinking Joan was working so hard and she sure needed a good long nap, and that she'll have a ton of new material to work from when she comes out of this! I also keep thinking about the possibility that she'd maybe rather go out while she's on top of her game so people will remember her that way. I too don't want to let her go, she's an awesome person as well as an iconic entertainer, and we need her too as inspiration for how to grow older and still live to the fullest.

I too am keeping her and her family in my prayers, and hoping she will come back to us as whole and wonderful as she was when she left. And while I know all the love that's being sent her way is powerful, I too know the outcome will truly be in God's hands.

Exactly! I mean she was so active and had everything, then in a snap, it's over. I think it brings our mortality front and center and it's scary!

She's out of ICU and on life support. I'm guessing Melissa is beside herself with the decision she's facing and putting it off as long as possible. So very heart wrenching....

Have you seen this E! News article posted earlier today? It quotes a "family source" who gives a more positive POV on Joan's move to a private room. If you or anyone else is interested, here's the link:

Re: George From Fashion Police Discusses Joan's Situation

Joan Rivers is my favorite comedian. I loved her vitality, and admired how vibrant she was at age 81. I don't think I could have kept up with half of her schedule. I'm a lot younger than her-- by decades, but I looked at her as a role model of how to grab life and embrace it. She was wonderful.

But sadly,it's not looking good. Several news reports today say that she was moved into a private room because doctors can't do anything more for her. When the phrase "resting comfortably" is used, it doesn't mean the patient is awake or alert, it usually means they are trying to reduce the stress on the patient by not sending them for any more x-rays, blood tests, etc.

The reports say she's having her hair and makeup done, and is surrounded by the things she loves including her dogs. The room is filled with flowers, bows and plants-- and was decorated by Melissa's wedding organizer.

It's unclear whether she's still on life support. If she isn't, that is also not necessarily a good thing. An emergency room doctor explained it could mean they're waiting for nature to take its course.

This is all so awful. I don't understand why an 81 year old woman would be allowed to undergo anesthesia at a clinic, and not in a hospital. The clinic is now under investigation. If she was sedated with propofol (the same drug that killed Michael Jackson), one of the side effects is depressed respiratory activity. If you stop breathing, that can trigger a heart attack. That could explain what happened.

There is talk that in the unlikely event she pulls through, she will have brain damage, possibly severe.

I hate this! It shouldn't have happened. I love Joan.

Go to the website Blindgossip (dotcom). I don't think I can link from here. Don't be misled by the website's name. They actually post accurate stories. The story is under the headline ""letting go"".

Re: George From Fashion Police Discusses Joan's Situation

Reading through this thread, I see that there are a few of you who are advocating for the privacy of Joan's medical condition and questioning why many of us are sharing updates. I understand your feelings, however, please understand ours.

While YOU may be a private person, Joan CHOSE not to be. She CHOSE to go into show business, she CHOSE to have a reality show having cameras follow her family, she CHOSE to have her life documented in a movie, and she CHOSE to reveal her life in books.

But more importantly, Joan has touched the lives of so many people, and we CARE about her, and CARE what happens to her. We are hungry for information because we are hoping to hear something good.

I followed John Lennon's shooting as well, and yes, being a public figure, we were entitled to hear about his medical condition. He also had a huge impact in my life, and I was so upset when he died.

So please don't rush to judge people who are looking for every morsel of information about Joan. We are interested because we CARE and we want to see a positive outcome.
