Re: George From Fashion Police Discusses Joan's Situation

Though I knew she is 81, this hit like a ton of bricks. I keep feeling in my heart "this just can't be happening!" - but it is. I am so holding on to hope , as I selfishly can't/won't imagine anything but her recovery. Yet my heart fears - {#emotions_dlg.crying}

I am 59 and would look at Joan and her vibrancy and think , "I want that to be me at 81!" Zest for life, energy, speaking my mind , and living life to the fullest. I have followed her for years , and I too think that Joan has a true heart of gold. Come back to us, Joan.{#emotions_dlg.sad}

Re: George From Fashion Police Discusses Joan's Situation

I, too, am very upset about Joan River's situation.

Like others, I grew up watching her and although I was never a super-fan, I liked her and would often laugh at her humor.

In later years, I came to admire her more. I read that book Maureen5 referred to , when I was going through a rough time, and I could see the sensitive side of her. These last years I came to admire her tremendous energy and zest for life. As I'm getting older I would think I could only wish to have SOME of her energy if I live to be in my 80's.

It's true too, that, part of my dismay comes from how this all happened, so quickly as a result of a routine procedure. That's so scary, but not impossible.

I understand that Joan's humor is not everyone's cup of tea. But when Joan talked about it, and comedy in general, you could understand she had her own take on it, a certain philosophy, and I admire that she stood by it and was not cowed by critics. She truly believed she was not being cruel and she used that same kind of humor in regard to herself, her family sometimes, and her situations in life, so it is apparent she believed it wholeheartedly.

From all that's been reported, it seems like she was a kind and generous woman in real life, courteous to fans, gave of herself to others through various charities, etc. The comedian on stage was not the woman in her personal life.

I sure hope she pulls through this.

My brother-in law who is a doctor says the longer she stays on life support to help her breathe the less her chances are of waking up to a full recovery. Her age plays a factor as well. Someone her age should of had this procedure in a hospital setting.

But I also knew there was a softer Joan. About 20 years during a bad patch , I read Joan's book ( I can't remember which one) and wrote her a letter. I still have her personal reply. Who knows how many little acts of kindness she did thst we never heard about? .God, if it's in your will please bring Joan back to us.. We are so not ready to let her go.

She did many things like that, there was a picture on her instagram of her visiting the USO at an airport,

I agree with y'all about Joan. On a personal note,I feel it because I have older,active parents and it sort of punched me in the gut.... we just never know what will happen and when....to any of us.

Re: George From Fashion Police Discusses Joan's Situation

Whenever my father had a medical procedure, all of his specialists had to sign off on it before it could be done. I wonder if, because Joan has had anesthesia so many times, that no one had concerns about it, even at her age.

This has to be very, very upsetting to many. Also for David Dangle, Joan's business partner of many, many years. I truly cannot believe that this has happened. Hopefully, Joan's strength and determination will prevail, and Joan will have a normal and quick recovery. Let's wish and hope for the best.

Exactly how I feel. She is a very strong and determined person with so much life and energy in her. Like so many others, I'm praying for a full recovery.

When I think about it, Joan may have been working just a little too hard for her age and a heart attack was just around the corner even if she had not had the procedure. Perhaps all can not be blamed on anesthesia. I do miss Joan and her quick wit just as I miss Jeanne Bice's humor and drive.

Re: George From Fashion Police Discusses Joan's Situation

I was in the studio audience the day at the Q of Kathy's last appearance with Joan. Joan was quite funny and had a pony brought out as a gift for Kathy, then also gave her a Faberge egg. She did get all faklempt, and said, everyone I love leaves me. I will never forget that.
