In defense of the obi, sort of.  First, I bought mine on ebay. None were more than $30.  Yes, the first ones with the long narrow strings were silly.  However, the second reversible, patterned. leather ones were great. I lost 50 lbs and had a bunch of dresses I would not have been able to wear but for the G.I.L.I. obis. Got many, many compliments.  And when I looked for belts that were similar in other colors, it was hard to find anything under $60,  So, yes, you're all right that they were overpriced and pushed way too hard from what I understand. But for the right price, they make sacky dresses look great.
