Never heard of the term "elephant bells" but I did wear very long, floor hugging bell bottom jeans in the early 70s. Of course, they were hip huggers, not high waisted ones like these. I thought I looked good

I had a sewing pattern for Elephant Bells.I think I only made one pair and that was out of a dark gray corduroy material.
