You're right the buttons do detract somewhat from the material/design.  I don't think they do a lot but you do notice them a lot.

 

I think I'd have liked to see metal buttons on the jacket.  Gold on some and silver on other's.

I agree with @SilleeMee.  Those buttons are...distracting.

 

I don't like the size of the buttons; for me, too big for the jacket.

An Eisenhower jacket is crisp and tailored. This thing ,looks like it came out of a dirty clothes hamper. Ike would be turning in his grave

Ike was in the military; this is a relaxed, casual jacket. I like it!
