Pick-your-own orchards are all over my area, including one within a half-mile from me. I go there all year to get fresh fruit in season and baked goods, homemade fudge, and hard cider. The wine-tasting room is open all year. Good times! There is also an old-timey cider mill in my neighborhood that I visit for fresh cider and pies. And I do wear Denim & Co. clothing while I go there. : )

I guess it depends where you live. Here in PA, we have many orchards where you can pick your own or buy fruit all year around. Strawberries are popular in the summertime.
In the fall, they have apple cider and hay rides, pumpkin decorating and other fun stuff for families.
You don't need special clothing..jeans and a sweat shirt will do just fine. You will want to wear clothing that you don't mind getting dirty or have to pick straw out of along with a pair not not so new shoes.

@Carol Dianeit sure depends where you live as to what activities are available.I would really enjoy picking my own fruits and veg.I love the idea that there are fresh home baked goods for sale too...awe too bad I will never get to pumpkin pick anywhere but the grocery store.

No, you don't "need" special clothing for these types of outings, but many people enjoy dressing the part in flannel, fall colors, or maybe even a QF sweatshirt! Lots of pumpkin patches or apple orchards are fairly civilized (that is, you're not out in a muddy field picking fruit or vegetables), and as others have mentioned, there are often other activities or food or arts/crafts available. Not everyone chooses to wear an old sweatshirt, jeans, and rubber boots on such an occasion. Of course QVC is trying to entice you to buy something special or fun to wear . . . it's kind of their purpose, isn't it, as a retailer?

So, the apple orchard has replaced the pumpkin patch? I can only speak for myself but when we do our fall excursion to the apple orchard for the apples, cider and pies; it's a jeans and sneakers day. And not my $$ cute embroidered jeans...lol

I think this must be regional to what is grown in your neck of the woods. I live in a subs of a very large metro area and we do not have anything like this, but we are too hot I believe to grow these things in our area. It has always sounded idealic to me and something I would love to do, but it would be a vacation for me to go somewhere to do it. The whole cider thing sounds great, we just dont have those orchards around us.

I've gone to a few pick your own events, and last year I went to our annual fall harvest festival where you can press apples for cider, churn butter, go on a hayride, etc. It was also pushing 90 degrees too so unfortunately my fall event outfits would have made me go into heatstroke.

the closest i get to an orchard is the large bins of apples that my local grocery store has during this time of year!!

Yes, every year I go to Apple Hill in Placerville, CA, with my best friend. There's over 50 farms in that area where you can get fruit, veggies, freshly made pies and cider, and crafts; there's several wineries, Christmas tree farms, and places to eat. However, having said that, I don't have a special outfit for it!
It's something I look forward to every year and a fun way to spend the day with my BFF.
