I hemmed 14 pairs of pants. *

No sew method.

Just finished!  Lot of work ...but I saved a couple of hundred dollars.  All but two pairs were wide leg style.

Try on / measure / cut / fold and iron / fuse / iron-on facing.

I like the result of the iron-on facing - and took out two pairs  of poly-knit pants that the tailor shotened and applied the tape to those also.  Nicer finish to the hem and I think the pants hang better / look better.

*  (I lost weight and had to get all new pants.)

Re: Finished! (Shortened Pants)

Spoiler

@ALRATIBA   Now you've got to find a place to put them all.  That's my problem.

Use cascading pants hangars.  This way you can see them at a glance.  I have done this: one cascade for black pants and one for navy.  Top of each cascade are the dressy pants that won,t be used frequently. Rest of each cascade, the regular ones.

I even use the cascade system with my maxi tank dresses.

The recessed area at the back of my t-shaped walk- in closet has all my off season clothing, and you guessed it, all on cascading hangars.....but I need a step ladder to reach the top when changing for the season.

HTH if space is an issue !

Re: Finished! (Shortened Pants)

You saved $$$ and I am happy for you but honestly I don't have the time or desire to take my time and do what it takes to get it done right.  I'd end up with one leg shorter than the other.    I don't have a problem finding petite pants here at QVC.  Sometimes I don't pay close attention and buy average pants and I'm ok with taking them to the dry cleaners to be hemmed.  It is $$ but it doesn't happen often.

@ALRATIBA  I love the iron on facing. Hadn't used it in a while but was too lazy to get out my sewing machine so I hemmed a pair of dress pants for my nephew today using the fusing.

As long as you can avoid the iron touching the fusing, you are fine.

Re: Finished! (Shortened Pants)

@jlkz    Use too many of those cascading handers and you'll be awakened one night by a crash in your closet and a huge mess on the floor.  This has happened to me twice.  Lesson learned.  Now I won't let myself use them.

Re: Finished! (Shortened Pants)

@ALRATIBA   I've used that fuse tape to hem sleeves on blouses, too. When petite, there are all kinds of tricks I have to come up with to shorten clothing.

@Kachina624

If using the huggable, flocked type hangars, I agree.  Had it happen to me also. Blouses are the only thing that goes on them now.

However, I am using the all-metal hangars for pants, sweaters and jackets.  They are more expensive but can handle the weight.  The wall hook has to be reinforced of course.
