Not a big fan.....I did like the blazer Susan had today but I just don't like faux leather. I own a pair of faux leather/ponte and have worn them twice in two years, I tried to like them. I am just not a fan of anything faux, I would rather wait for the real thing or pass it by. Just my opinion.

I, too, prefer nice leather, but there is a contingent that prefers faux for the purpose of preventing animal cruelty.  I guess the beef we eat is also traded as a skin.  And some cattle farms are disgusting.  Again, I do use leather.  And I use faux.  It doesn't get my attention for conservation of species.  That I save for trees, and wetlands.

I have some real and faux leather jackets. I don't think that faux leather photographs well or reads very well on TV though.

I have a couple of nice ones by Joan Rivers in brick and in black which I like as they are quilted with a center zip front and they are collarless.

I like both but for jackets I prefer the real thing. I have couple faux leather jackets and the faux is peeling.

I have a few pairs of faux leather boots and you'd never know they weren't real leather. They've held up better than the jackets.

I took one look at it and said - nope, don't like.  It just looks cheap and instead of doing a little dash of 'leather' - it's like Quacker and Bob Mackey - put more and more stuff (leather, sparklers) on.  Ends up looking like Walm**t.

i have some faux leather ponte pants that are great!  probably better than wearing the real thing.  i also have a faux cream moto jacket that my shopper picked out for me and i couldn't figure out for a while whether it was real or not.  that is how well made and authentic it looks and feels.

it's all on a case by case basis for me.  i even bought two pair of non leather booties from nordies last year on line thinking i'll see what they're like, i can always return them.  well, they both were keepers.

i think there must be different grades of faux leather, going from the really cheap to a pretty good material.

ITA with @ladyroxanne and her comment on grades of faux. I have real and faux jackets that I cherish equally, faux leggings that I actually like better than my real ones, fit better, look better, and are SO much easier to care for.

I haven't made the transition to loving faux boots yet, give me real leather. I have a few pairs of faux that only get worn on the snowy days that I want to protect my real leather.

All the big designers are creating in faux and I know from wear experience that there is some great faux material out there. And some very bad, too.

Like any other material out there, there is great faux leather and there is some terrible and cheap faux leather.

I fairly recently bought a Pam McCoy faux leather jacket that is really, really nice and I have an old faux leather Susan Graver jacket that is really, really nice.  However, I bought a Giuliana Rancic faux leather jacket and it screamed cheap and fake and I sent it right back.

For some reason, the faux leather trimmed items I've bought I've never liked.  It's like they all used the cheapest faux leather.

Not only does the faux trim keep costs down but faux can be washed and real leather can't so on clothing items you are going to wear often and need to launder faux trim is better.

Re: Faux leather

[ Edited ]

I love leather coats and jackets. I prefer leather shoes for breathability and comfort. I live in Northern Virginia and we have rainy, snowy weather for most of jacket wearing season.  I am always worried I will ruin my leather coats, so I often don't wear them.  They also are very heavy to carry, if I have to take them off and carry them.  Last year I saw Caroyln modeling a cute Denim and Co Faux Leather jacket and I ordered it.  I love it!  It is warm, soft to the touch and perfect for icky weather.  I can't tell the difference beween my expensive lamb leather jacket and this quality faux leather.  It is just practical!
