Faux fur still sends wrong message?

Call me crazy, but to me, wearing faux fur says you still condone the slaughter of animals for the adornment of humans, but either are too poor to afford the real thing or want to soothe your conscience with the notion that it's not real. Please reconsider the purchase of faux fur, as it might convey the idea you'd wear real fur if the circumstances were different. We're not cavemen anymore, and there are suitable alternatives for warmth and style without putting a stamp of approval on pseudo-cruelty. Could we begin a reasoned dialogue on this topic?
