I used to think as you, but at one point, trying on different brands, I noticed one was all about one type if fit exclusively, another had thick puffy denim, another tissue thin denim, and another high price one had a luxury feel and beautiful color.
You definately get what you pay for.
Try on a pair of Ralph Lauren you'll notice the difference even if you don't buy it. I also found that difference in NYDJ.

@Janey2 I agree - for so many things we buy, if we can, we pay for what we like because we like it.
Very often, something that will serve the same purpose is available for less, but I know few people who buy every item they wear, eat, decorate with, etc. because it's the least expensive they can find.

My mother bought scads of cheap shoes and wore very few of them. But it made her happy.
