Re: Fashion Every Year from 1784-1970

@lolakimono     I STILL wear updated variations of 60's & 70's "styles".    I have broad shoulders and am long-waisted, and those style really "work" for me

Very interesting.... thank you.   I see a roller coaster.  In the 1700's the dresses are huge with several layers and bustles to make the waist appear smaller.  Then, the dresses become less layered, shapeless and closer to the body with empire waistlines.  Then the dresses become large and bustled again, then back to more figure hugging and knee-length.  What's next for us?  Bustles and a jillion petticoats again?

I can't imagine wearing all those layers and long flowing, heavy fabrics -- not to mention petticoats and bustles!  Eek.  How long did it take them to get dressed and un-dressed?

1968 reminded me of Twiggy.

Which one is your favorite @lolakimono?

Re: Fashion Every Year from 1784-1970

1859 reminds me of the toilet paper covers older women used to crochet for their bathrooms

I liked the one from 1940 -reminds me of seeing photos of my mother when she was in her 20s and commenting "that was you ?" She didn't believe in corporal punishment - only dirty looks ! Smiley Happy I like the simplicity of the outfit also.

I had dresses like 1964 & 1968  and a waistline

1970 on was and is the best because pants started to become the norm (although it took awhile and some protest )

I loved the 1950 and I remember my Mom wearing the 1968 to 1970 pantsuit most days.

But who knew fashion better than the below duo?

@lolakimono

Thanks for posting these. I loved looking at them.

I ordered a huge fashion history book during lockdown. Lots of great photos and explanations of fashion beginning with ancient times and finishing with the 2000s. Fun!

My favorites are based on what I would want to wear. Even though I love some of the others, I'd never want to have to wear all the "parts" and layers required.

My favorites are the 1944, 1945, and 1962 dresees. I love a good knee length dress. These look fairly classic and could be worn today with a few tweaks. I also love a good pantsuit so I like the 1970 look.

I like the 1940's the best - always have.  Dresses and skirts just covering the knees, and no plunging necklines.  Very lady like and proper.

@lolakimono :  I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the fashions through the years (can't include everything!).
