Shout out to Katrina for an enjoyable show this Monday morning.  I especially wanted to give kudos for the correct pronounciation of shirring when presenting the top that looked like hammered silk with the shrring on the shoulder seam.  Katrina is the only host that I've heard pronounce this term correctly.  Most of the hosts say shirring, like "shearing", instead of shrring, like stirring.  I have been sewing since I was 10 years old.  My mother was a seamstress for Lord & Taylor, Peck & Peck, and many bridal shops.  She taught me all terminology, sewing tricks by hand and on the machine.  It makes me wince to hear "shearing," by the hosts and I have even heard vendors say it incorrectly.

Again, thank you, Katrina.  I rarely see her shows due to her usual late time slot, but today was a treat, for me.

@bellanonna   Completely agree with you.  I've heard even QVC's so-called designers mispronounce that word.  My mother and aunts were seamstresses and they always said "shirring" rhyming with "stirring" not shearing.

Poor Katrina, every day there seems to be a thread saying she's not a good host or she's a good host.

This ladys' head must be spinning.

I can't remember anyone else commanding a thread other than the Q resident SG

I enjoy Katrina immensely but that being said, many of the hosts come from different backgrounds and not knowing the correct pronounciation of a certain sewing terms does not make them a bad host.

In MY area of the country, the word IS pronounced "SHEARING".  I truly think that it is a regional thing.

BTW, I have a degree in English, and have worked as a teacher and editor for years.

@bellanonna    Did your mother ever say "fabrication" for fabric?  This is a serious question.  I'm trying to figure out where this originated

@kaydee50 @bellanonna   And I thought I was the only one.  Not a seamstress nor is anyone in my family but I do pronounce it correctly.  Not saying mispronouncing a word or three makes for a bad host at all, Depending on the part of the country words are pronounced differently.  Post was meant as a compliment to Katrina, nothing more.

@Kachina624  I wish I knew also.  All over the internet they use the word fabric.  Different definitions on google including a lie, example: that whole story is a fabrication.   Drives me nuts.
