Expensive sequence of events - just thought I'd share.

1) Enjoying our sunny back porch on Sunday with hubby.

2) He snaps a candid photo of me.

3) He shows me the photo, thinking I'd be pleased.

4) I'm horrified at how awful I look.

5) I spend the afternoon watching YouTube makeup tutorials for "mature" women.

6) I visit Ulta Beauty on Monday morning and spend $149. (nice gift with purchase, I have to admit)

7) I try my new products, look like a clown, wash it all off.

8) Today I'll look exactly the same as I did on Sunday morning, except that I l know have a bunch of cosmetics that I will likely never use and $149 less in my checking account.

Sigh.

Does this sort of thing happen to other people?

No. I do the best I can with the drugstore cosmetics I like. Sorry you thought you looked bad. I rarely like a photo of myself either, think of myself much younger than the photo reveals.

I think Ulta takes returns, it is worth a shot.

My DH loves me whether I wear makeup or not. Since retiring, I go with less makeup and that’s ok. But it’s how you feel about yourself. I’m 100% pleased with myself with less.

@house_cat  Will ULTA take products back?  Did you look at video for your coloring? Try it again applying very lightly...maybe give yourself time to get used to new look if more makeup than used to wearing.

****Me, in photos? Always look like corpse. Never wear enough mu for a photo, but if know pics will be taken (weddings, etc.), adjust and brighten blush, eyeliner more pronounced, a little contouring w/ bronzer, brighter lip stick, but then look in mirror afterwards and look like street walker.

I go so long without looking in a mirror for longer then a minute or two that when I do I can't believe that's me. Even with cosmetics I still look tired and wore out. As for pictures I'm horrified.  I've always been a hard worker and I guess it shows. Oh well live goes on whether you like it or not.

The only time I allowed pictures taken of me was in October for my sons wedding. Otherwise nope.
