When you view channels that are broadcast in HD it is what is referred to as a 16:9 format. If a SD channel is viewed on a 16:9 format then things will look short and wide. To resolve this viewing issue you need to adjust the format to 'PILLAR' in your cable or satellite box settings and this will not affect the HD channels...only the SD channels will appear as a smaller screen (4:3 format).

I have Spectrum and we do get Evine in HD.
The only channels I had the problem with everyone looking short and wide were HSN2, Q2 and JTV but I adjusted the aspect ratio and everything is ok.
JTV broadcasts in some markets in HD but not in my area yet.

We don't have any such setting like this with our cable box. We can adjust our format to "normal", "zoom" or "stretch".

I just tried to switch to U-verse last Saturday! Apparently the cable that runs from my condo to the electrical room is no good! I'm disappointed but we are probably going to get Direct TV. Comcast is getting on our last nerve with their inflated pricing and mediocre service.
When I searched for the HD channel I found 4, count 'em, 4 evines and 3 QVCs! Not one of the evines was in HD?! 2 of the Q's were but they were all 3 the SAME channel!

I don't know if you will have that with Direct TV but we have that with Spectrum for many channels, not just shopping channel.
For instance we get QVC on channel 1175, 175 and 11. Initially QVCHD was on 1175 and 175 was the digital version and 11 was basic and also non-HD. A few years ago our cable company began broadcasting on every channel in HD if it's offered in HD. So now all 3 of those QVC stations are in HD.
There are some channels we get only in the digital broadcast like JTV, TVLand, LOGO, Cloo and many other stations and some we only get in that basic format like WGN.
We used to have DirectTV. They hooked us in with a low 2 year package and then just like cable, the price kept going up and up and up until it was cheaper for us to go back to cable. It's all a racket. I wish we coul pick and choose the channels we want. I don't watch half the channels we pay for.

I've been a Directv customer for about 15 years. Every time they raise my rate I call them to ask if they could lower it and they do. They've been very good with keeping me as their customer. I just hate calling them to beg for a lower rate...it's sort of humiliating.

I guess when they're bragging about how many channels they carry they forget to mention it's cuz they're all duplicates, triplicates and quadruplicates!
What makes it so annoying is I still don't have Q2 or Beauty IQ?!

@Andreatoo, I do have Q2 but not Beauty IQ. I can't figure out why I don't get that channel though because I have Roku and it's supposed to stream live there. I don't think I know what I'm doing with it. LOL
@SilleeMee, I tried and they kept telling me there was nothing they could do. So I called and set up a cable installation. As the cable installers were finishing up, I called Direct TV to cancel and then they offered to lower my bill. I told them it was too late. LOL

@Andreatoo - I guess my first question is who's responsible for fixing the cable? If it's a Comcast cable they need to repair it. If it's an ATT cable they need to repair it. Write a letter and make them repair it. You shouldn't have to stay with a company you don't want just because of a broken cable line IF the service is available in your area - that's nuts. Everything is wireless now too.
DirectTV I believe is through ATT now. They offered me that instead of UVerse because we were negotiating on getting my bill down, but I don't want a satellite. They also offered a streaming package. All these companies are the same - you get the promotional package and then after it ends the price skyrockets. Due to $$$ I'm sticking with ATT UVerse for now. At least when it comes time to re-negotiate they work with you. I do have duplicate channels but only because its SD or HD. I have QVC and QVC2, but not Beauty IQ which I wouldn't watch anyway. I don't really watch the Q at all. Only 1 Evine - again in SD or HD - that's it.
