I guess I will be in the minority. I do not care for the plaid coat on Princess Kate. She is far to young to be wearing such a matronly coat like that and the black bundle on her head that is suppose to be hat looks like a curled up black cat!
Duchess-to-be Megan has a far more fashionable and classic look than her royal counterpart in this photo. Though their roles are far different and not a competition the comparision is unstoppable. Megan will indeed have more freedom to express her personal style than the Princess because of their different function within the monarchy.
Looking forward to seeing how the fashion analysis continues in the years to come.

I think she will bring a more current up to date look. Won't be so stuffy and out of style looking. When I moved to another state I thought I had
moved back to the 60's in a time warp. Clothes I saw were out dated, oldy looking, etc. Women were pretty had great figures, but, wore clothes from little house on the prairie.
I think Meg will introduce new ways of thinking. She will have to get used to the food over there. I had trouble with that LOL I was on vacation though came home hungry.

@SharkE Honey, we ARE little house on the prairie! We do dress more conservatively because that's who we are. I see things that to me look too flashy and is something I wouldn't in this lifetime want to wear.
That we are different is what makes us the US rather than a smaller monocultural country where people are in lock step and basically dressed alike. We think differently, speak differently and eat differently. Someone who gets up and feeds the cows and horses and breaks ice on the pond isn't going to think, act or dress like someone who puts on the black fashionable outfits and gets on the subway.
Me? I have ALWAYS dressed conservatively--much more than my mother approved of. I am a Talbots girl through and through, with some LL Bean and a few Nordstrom things thrown in. I'm not and never have been the tight dress, leopard print, big hair, red lipstick and long fingernail person. Long fingernails and cows don't mix well.
To me, Kate Windsor dresses to be seen as a woman with class, intelligence, and a responsible role in life. I think she is always on the mark. What some see as "matronly" I see as a woman who knows who she is, wants a place in the decision making, and is beautiful but is saying to the world I am much more than beauty. I'm smart, accomplished and mean to make a valuable contribution to the world; I'm not just about pretty. I like that. She's out to be seen and heard, not just an ornament. Thank goodness this woman doesn't dress like Hollywood.

@Sooner FYI - I've known William to use the last name of Wales and Cambridge (George is enrolled in school as George Cambridge and William used Wales when he was a helicopter pilot) but I've not yet seen him use Windsor as his last name.

@Pearlee Thanks for the name update! I have read a lot about that over the years and am still not sure what their name REALLY was or how they do use these various names in modern times! I'm not sure they know! LOL!!!

@Greeneyedlady21 wrote:@lulu1 I thought the same thing, about the orange for Christmas. I've read that she wears the bright vivid colors so that people in crowds can see and identify her that way. At Christmas service they do the walkabout and I guess even that is crowded.
My reaction upon seeing her would have been, "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!!"

I admit that I'm very biased, love Scotland and their classic fashion, remember Andy Murray's wedding? Oh là là!

I don't care at all for what's already started as far as the comparisons between the two women and pitting them against each other. Unfortunately it's still done in 2017, soon to be 18.
This is such a lovely photo of the 4 of them. I do like Kate's plaid coat and I think this photo makes her look much better in it than the earlier one posted, which made her look pudgy and neckless. Here she looks beautiful. Not a fan of Meghans hat, looks like a space mushroom, but I love the boots and the bag.
What I find most attractive here is how genuinely in love they look. Not something you can fake for the camera. IMO.
Much more attractive than the cold feeling you would get from the photos of Diana and Charles.

I think they both look pretty, classic, and appropriate. There’s a certain look that all the women in the royal family seem to take on once their roles become official. It’s hard to describe but it’s a kind of classic, conservative, tweedy look. There is some leeway allowed and I think they can thank Diana for that. Still, you won’t see women in the royal family wearing outrageous, avant garde fashions...except perhaps those fascinator hats that Sarah Ferguson’s daughters wore to the royal wedding. As a result, they became international laughing stocks.
