When I have to size up or down, I feel the garment is not properly made. If, for instance it is tight in the arms or waist etc, that is what botters me and I usually won't size up or down. If the overall piece runs large or small then I'm ok with sizing up or down. Don't know if this makes sense.

When browsing around in regular (local) stores, I walk around, holding up the garment. I don't care what the size says. I like comfort, so I choose the items that look as though they will fit and also feel comfortable. I'm usually right. I rarely use dressing rooms unless I have a lot of time to spend. I shop local, so returning something that is too snug (not very often) isn't a problem. It sure is handy to be able to shop local.

When you wear a 3X, you can't size up when retailers don't offer anything bigger. So if something I know runs small or it looks small, I don't buy it. There are times when I do have to go down a size. It doesn't really bother me, but the inconsistency is frustrating.

I don't mind sizing up, but I dislike the inconsistencies among different clothing lines. I have broad shoulder and narrow hips, so I often have to size up in tops to get a comfortable fit. I rarely buy dresses because I have difficulty finding one that fits me properly. I do agree that vanity sizing has gotten out of hand. I no longer know what size I would really wear if things weren't being made larger. My mother and her sister had a thing about sizes. They cut the size tags out of every piece of clothing they owned...and they were always thin.

That's my problem with shoes. I generally wear an 11.

What irritates me is when the sizing is OFF anyway. When I used to shop Dress Barn, I had to size up at least 2 sizes in everything. That was the only place whose sizing was completely off for me. QVC has inconsistent sizing, but think that has to do with the designer & where it is made. I have never seen so many complaints as Susan Graver gets on the fit of her garments.

It USED to bother me, but NOW, I understand that different vendors size different ways. A 16 in one item can be a size 22 in Gili. Just cut out the size tag so you are NEVER reminded again. "wink"
