I live in NYC ... retired. I wear pants about 95% of the time and I don't like how pants look with shoes. So - I wear ankle boots or shoeties in the winter. Sandals or shoeties in the summer. I no longer wear shoes with heels higher than 1.5".
Anything I put on my feet has to be suitable for walking on city streets.

i'm in NE and when the snow flies i wear duck boots and if really bad have waterproof boots. its much warmer to me to wear boots v dig around for the correct socks to wear with shoes, pants and jeans and still freeze anyway
i don't own winter shoes! it's boots until sandal weather!

@kate2357 I am in New England, and from late-October, or whenever the temperature stays in the low 50's or lower, I wear riding boots right up until April. Depending on the snow situation (boo!) I prefer to wear the dress boots because they keep my legs covered and sort of protected and warm, but still stylish and not so cumbersome. Also between the tights and boots, the need for leg shaving is greatly reduced for skirts and dresses (LOL, only sort-of kidding!)
But, when the storms roll in or there is just too much slush and mess I just stick with winter boots. I have two really cute Sporto ones that are to the knee and faux fur lined so when I have to go to meetings off site they still serve the same purpose as noted above.

I'm in Michigan and happen to be a boot freak, lol. Mostly ankle boots. Earlier this week I wore loafers a couple of days in a row. Then again I was sick as a dog with a cold and feeling out of it. On Wednesday I couldn't take it and put on these, ha ha ha.
Today I am wearing these.

I'm in the south and as soon as we had the first cold day under 70, the boots came out. Thanksgiving was in the 70s and my neighbor was wearing knee high suede boots with skinny jeans. Boots are very popular here.

In SW Florida we don't have enough days that are cool enough to wear boots to make it worth the expense to buy them & they would not look right with our clothes anyway. I seldom even have a chance to wear long pants. My "winter coat" is a trench coat and it's usually too warm. The first winter we spent down here it was cold all winter - frost at night and highs in the low 60's, but that was extremely unusual. Our norms thru winter is a possible , maybe one or two days where there may be a frost and a few days with temps below 70.
