Do you remember and/or wore girdles?

I just went through the setting gel thread and it lead me to this topic.  We used to torture ourselves, those of us who graduated HS in the 60's.  I wore a girdle every day, I must have weighed all of 120.  I even wore a maternity girdle in my first office job, also three inch heels.  We were all just plain crazy in my public high school.  Did you somehow manage to escape this, or were you a fellow prisoner to fashion?

I wore a girdle for dressier occasions. I do not recall wearing a girdle to school. We wore socks and lace up shoes when I was in high school with full skirts. The penny loafer craze hit after my high school days.

I wore one in 6th grade with garters for my stockings. I was 12 and 5'8, 112 pounds,🤣 I reached my full height at 11. I never thought much about it as they were heavily advertised in 17 Magazine, my fashion Bible.😀

edited to add, it was 1965 when I was 12.

Never wore a "girdle" certainly not in high school. Did wear panty hose that had some compression in the stomach area.  Forget what they were called.  Have not worn panty hose in decades and certainly not a girdle.

I remember my mother used to wear a girdle even in the house.  My father would just shake his head!

Yes, I wore one when I didn't need one, except to hold up my nylons.

I could actually use one now! ☺️

I remember my Mom struggling to put on a girdle.  Looked like a torture device.  So glad those days are over.  BUT, I am assuming that was all in an attempt to look thinner.  Unfortunately, these days, so many people don't give a fig what they look like.  No matter your size, you can still dress appropriately and not show the world every lump, bump and bulge of your body.  I am truly flabbergasted and disgusted at some of the ways women dress.

My grandmother wore girdles. I suppose my mom did, too.

I wore a "pantie girdle" in junior high bc it had garters attached to hold up my nylons. I also wore a garter belt that had longer straps on the garters.

It was exciting when pantyhose came out in the L'Eggs eggs. My mom could conveniently pick up a pair for me to wear to school the next day and no more garters.

I managed to escape as I was born in 1960.  I do remember my mom and my aunts wearing girdles though.   It did look like torture to me.  Sorry I missed it, NOT!

@depglass

I'm from the girdle generation Cat LOL

Like you, rail thin, but...had to wear it to hold up stockings.  No pantyhose.   Struggling in and out of that girdle during gym class.  What a headache!  So hot and uncomfortable.

Garter belts were also popular.

My girlfriend wore a long-line corset at her wedding and nearly passed out in the heat.

When pantyhose came around, we were relieved.
