I just had to run to the store to get some papertowels. But no, I can't just go the way I am. Of course I did look like do do. So take a shower, fix my hair and put on a full face of make up just to go to the store. I am 60 years old and nobody will even look at me, but I just have to do it. How about you girls? Do you do the same or are you one of those that goes to the store in your pj bottoms and flip flops?? Sometimes I wish I could, but just can't do it!!!

{#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

Really? No one will look at you because you're 60? I don't understand that at all.

Kiss

Oh I get that statement. I'm 56 and beyond the age where people will stop and stare at me because I'm younger, thinner, prettier, whatever it may be. I honestly don't mind being the invisible one out there. It has it's advantages and can be very freeing. Of course they "see" you but they don't really LOOK at you. Which is fine, I don't like/need attention.

Oh my Cookie some of my week-end "uniforms" (sweats) have a rip or hole here or there since they are so old. Running to the store for a quick pick-up like that would not and has not caused me to change into something better.

Now one time my tee shirt was so bad I did throw on an Addis jacket over my uniform for the quick trip but clean was all I was. No make-up, hair in pony tail, and old and very old clothes on. 52 yrs. old here and I have done the be pretty ride and I am over it.

..that's sad. very sad. I'm 54 and I care as much about my appearance as I did when I was 34 or 24. And I'm sure I will until I take my last breath.

You know it is the usual on this forum, make a statement and somebody has to read something into it or over analyze it. Sorry to say it is just a fact. You get to be a certain age and unless you are Christie Brinkley or Kris Kardashian you don't exactly get the eye anymore. Just the hard truth. If you are young, you won't get it. You think I like it, of course not. Just don't worry about me, I am fine and have plenty of self confidence. I guess the reason I started this was just to see what all you other girls do about make up and such. Have a great and joyful day everybody!! Smile...

{#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

It's not a fact, and it's not the hard truth. It's your opinion. And many of us disagree.

Which doesn't mean you're wrong and we're right. But we all have the right to express our own opinions. That's the purpose of a forum. We're not all the same, and things would be pretty boring if we were!

Kiss

You don't think it is a hard fact that younger women get more looks than gals over 60??HHHMMMM??????

Smile

Yes, they probably do. But I was responding to what you wrote, which was not that younger women get more looks than older ones. That's not what you said.

What you did say is that women of a certain age "don't get the eye anymore". Which is completely different. You also said earlier that no one looks at women over age 60.

And I disagree. In fact, I strongly disagree. There are many attractive women who are not young, and there are plenty of men & women who notice and appreciate them. All of this talk about "older" women being invisible is ridiculous, IMO.

I get my shower and dress as soon as I get up & I blow my hair dry. I may or may not put on mu , I do not feel I have to hide behind mu every day.

I agree with you about a huge area of moderation. Most of the people I see when I'm out and about fall into the middle area, and that's perfectly fine. I can't remember the last time I saw someone overly-made-up at the grocery store or looking as though they just rolled out of bed at the opera.

But I disagree with your last sentence. I enjoy applying makeup, and I always use at least eyeliner & mascara before going anywhere, and often more than that. I don't feel at all as though I'm hiding behind my makeup. I enjoy applying it, and it makes me feel good - well worth the few minutes it takes to apply. It has nothing at all to do with hiding, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels the same way.

When i took psych in nursing school we learned about some folks who have low self esteem and have to feel that others can't "see" them if they hide behind behind their makeup - I didn't make this up. This is also why some women wear way too much MU.

Psych in nursing school....hide behind their makeup.... That's a bunch of bull pile. Probably invented by a male psychiatrist with some sort of prostitute hang up.{#emotions_dlg.thumbdown}

Huh? I majored in psychology. I never hear this nor would I agree with it. There are some women who dislike girly, girly, on themselves or anyone else. Maybe they are against mu, but really, most women look better with makeup. Really!

I agree. I can put the same items of clothing, a top, a bottom. A piece of jewelry. Maybe a quick mascara, lipstick, a sweep of Laura Geller and look way better than those who looked like they threw on whatever they could find 30 sec, no mu. And most women I see do not look like attractive women. Without the hair, they would look like men. This viewpoint of mine is due to my upbringing in the 50s and 60 s where women dressed like women. I know times have changed but I long for the days when fashion was so stylish.

Yes, but how much makeup I wear depends on where I'm going.

If I'm just heading to the supermarket, I'll wear minimal makeup.

If I'm going out for a full day of shopping, errands, or activities with the kids, I'll do the whole makeup and hair thing.

I usually stop at the grocery store after I go to the gym, so no I don't. I don't go out without SPF on my face though.

Re: Do you put on your make up and fix your hair to go the store?

Nope! I don't put on makeup or fix my hair to go to any store on the weekends, even if it was a high end department store. I don't wear makeup on weekends period. Well.....unless I have an event (party, dinner out, etc) to go to, but those occasions are few and far between. If I need to go out somewhere on a weekend, I just wash my face, put on moisturizer, comb my hair and then put on a baseball cap....LOL When I was young, I guess I was too vain to go out in pubic without makeup and my hair done. But now I'm 61, and I don't really care what other people think of me. I have on clean clothes (always jeans on the weekend), my face, teeth, and body are clean, and that's all I care about. I work hard at work all week and weekends are my time to relax, and that doesn't include (at least for me) makeup and perfect hair.

I sure do! You never know when you might run into Kevin Costner or Mark Harmon. (and I wouldn't want to scare them)

Of course I did look like do do ????

or are you one of those that goes ????

(absolutely BLOWS my mind!!!) {#emotions_dlg.scared}

NO, I would not do my hair JUST to go to the store and, NO, I don't wear PJ's either! Who does that? (classless, trashy people, maybe!)

If I am just running to pick up a few items and am otherwise home for the day, then I would wear leggings and a long tunic, sneakers and sunglasses (if sunny)- I ALWAYS wash my hair (everyday) so that's not an issue. Do I spend hours blow drying, NO!

Re: Do you put on your make up and fix your hair to go the store?

If I am just running to the corner store, no way, but do not wear pj's when I go there. If I am going to the mall, I will do a little make up and hair. Most of the people I see at the mall are very casually dressed, nothing special. Works for me.

Re: Do you put on your make up and fix your hair to go the store?

I usually put on makeup and dress up in "office casual" attire. However, sometimes -- a lot lately -- where I just go to the store right after I hike.... in my hiking attire. However, I leave all my gears in the car and take only a credit card and photo ID.
