I don't care for houndstooth, but I do have an Isaac puffer jacket with a houndstooth lining.  I tolerate it because it's on the inside of the jacket.

I'm very particular about prints but I do like houndstooth.  I own one item in houndstooth (blouse) and I get compliments on it all the time.

 

As for the coat.....not a fan of the color and collar!

I like houndstooth in neutral colors on a small scale. I had a matching houndstooth pantsuit in the 90s and early 2000s. I wore a solid black top under the jacket. I don't own any pieces currently. I tend to wear solid neutral bottoms with print tops now so a houndstooth blazer wouldn't work for me.

 

I don't like this large scale pink version, although it would be better IMO without the fur collar & cuffs.
