It's not so much about the single button but about the length of the garment. I think it looks good on you because the jacket is a slightly cropped length. I don't wear a lot of button cardigans with the exception of the classic cardigans and generally I wear those much like a pullover with all of the buttons done. Not as outerwear over anything. I do have a lightweight Bolero type jacket with a single hook and eye at the neck. It does not add width to my hips because of the length
