Is it just me or do the pockets seem to hit in an unnatural spot. Too high up.

I think you're right. Might be better without pocket flaps.

It seems that most Denim & Co things are following a different sizing than I have used, none of it seems to fit me any longer.

You are right that the pockets are hitting at an unnatural, or atypical,  spot. The more I looked at the picture, the more it grew on me and I like it.

   The flaps can be tucked in to hide them
