What makes it all the more tempting these days is to click on an ad for some items you like and then be inundated with pop up ads for those things. If I look at a nice leather coat or pair of high heel boots, I get what seems to be unending promotions for more of the same on my computer. I guess it is just the way of our modern world.

Although my budget severely limits my spending (I'm on fixed income but the expenses keep rising!!), I spend a great deal of time (perhaps more than I should) cyber-shopping. Not so much the B&M stores - don't like the crowds. But to sit at my computer, or in my recliner with my IPAD - Oh my!! Many items are added to my wish list, never to be seen again. But I have fun and am content to wish. One area, however, that I am a sucker for, and have always been, are all the beautiful cosmetic and makeup gift sets! I have to be very careful not to let my guard down because those items really tempt me and I could easily get into serious trouble!

I love to shop for myself as well as for others. And I enjoy window shopping too. I guess it's my favorite hobby. Thankfully shopping burns calories as well as money! I should be a professional shopper
Disclaimer - I pay my bills in full every month, including some that goes into savings, so even though I shop a lot I am financially responsible. I don't buy many big ticket items and my favorite shopping is bargain shopping!!
Ditto ..... there's a few on the boards that seem to buy everything in sight ..... I just hope they aren't horribly in debt.
I'm not in debt at all, and I certainly don't buy "everything in sight". I don't think you should concern yourself with what others buy, and don't assume those of us who buy are all in debt. I'd only concern myself with my own finances. I pay my cc bill off monthly and have no debt.
Good grief ......... I have no idea what caused you to feel singled out, but I assure you, I didn't have you in mind.
As for what you think about what I appear to be "concerning myself with", you needn't worry yourself ....... I was merely making an observation based on comments I've read here ...... AND the title of this thread.

Just yesterday evening my DH asked what the heck was going on because there has been a box or 2 being delivered constantly!
I have $45.00 in City Cash I need to use at NY& Co. by Monday. I'm afraid to set foot in the store because my intention is to use it on gifts for my sister but I'm afraid it will be more for me. But I just can't let that money go to waste either.
The only thing I can say is that I have a x-mas club so my gift money is set aside. I'm not spending that money on me.
I always say I'm going to do the Christmas Club thing at my bank and I never do! Maybe next year!
Seriously, it's the best thing I ever did.

No. But then I'm never out in the stores, I don't look at catalogs, and I only half pay attention to the shopping channels. I need to clothes shopping but I can't even force myself to do that.

This is why I only make a trip to Wal-Mart every two months and buy multiples of everything to keep on hand, so that I stay out of the stores as much as possible. When I absolutely must go to the store, I go with detailed list in hand, buy what's on the list, and get out. I make one trip to the mall a year, to the Hallmark store to buy a Christmas ornament for my nephew. I pick out the ornament right away, pick out special holiday cards for my family, pay for my purchases and walk straight back to my car to head home. This year I conned my daughter into picking up the ornament while she was in the mall, and saved myself a trip. Our family is very small, and we don't do Christmas in a big way. My shopping is done, although I am waiting on one gift to arrive. I am not tempted to buy any more this time of year, compared to buying at any other time of year.
I am so with you on the missing gene. I hate it and need new of so much it is sad. I have not been to a mall since last Christmas when I ran into Dillard's Men's Dept. to buy a ton of gift cards, (no temptations being in the men's dept.). I know I will have to go back soon but I try to buy gift cards on line ect....
Thank goodness I live alone and do not feel guilty about skipping the grocery stores ect.. for a few weeks if I feel like it. Seriously, it is a good thing not having the shopping gene with retirement only about 10 to 15 years away. Save that money!

I think what's part of this season is not only do you have permission to buy, but you HAVE to buy .... several things, usually.
