Re: Cutting old Barefoot Dreams cardigans?

@LizzieInSRQ

I may try cutting a little at the very bottom and see what happens, if I'm brave enough! I think I may be a rebel. haha

If it unravels I'll maybe look for a tailor with a serger.  I just know I'm not wearing as is......

And I love your run-on sentence! It makes me feel less self conscious about my terrible grammar! Woman Wink

@Group 5 minus 1  Thanks, I'm not sure that it is a sweater knit, but I may be wrong about that! Thanks again......

Re: Cutting old Barefoot Dreams cardigans?

I haven't read all of the posts........

Just wondering and thinking that sometimes employees who work at fabric stores that sell sewing machines will do minor sewing on customers' items.

Button holes, hemming, etc., etc.

If you have a fabric shop or sewing machine store, give them a call.

Maybe fabric shops have some sort of knit fabric hemming glue or item that might be useful to you when and if you decide to cut the fabric yourself.

Otherwise, I'm guessing that there are many suggestions / warnings that have been posted here.

Re: Cutting old Barefoot Dreams cardigans?

@GingerHead   That would make me a bit nervous but if you want to try...I would get out the sewimg machine and put a tight zig-zag stitch where you want to trim...then trim just below the zig zag, that should (hopefully) keep the fabric from unraveling...just a thought, may or may not work!!

Thanks for saving my cardigans everybody!!! Woman Happy

I'm afraid you're all right and if I cut them they will unravel.

I think I better just leave well enough alone and just wear as is or ask for help somewhere....Woman Happy

Or use the tape @LizzieInSRQ  and @cindyNC mentioned....

Re: Cutting old Barefoot Dreams cardigans?

No --not unless you are seamstress----think the whole thing would unravel and then bag out at the hem----if you had a serger machine that would finish the edges, someone may be able to do that -- but think it would be ruined. and why go to all that if you are wearing just at home. My cat would LOVE that cozy thing to sleep in Cat Tongue

Re: Cutting old Barefoot Dreams cardigans?

@Kachina624

I'm not familiar with Barefoot Dreams fabrics ... but if it's cut and sew machine knit or even fully fashioned machine knit ... I'd take it to the local tailor shop and see what they suggest.

I wouldn't even attempt to do it myself.

If it's a woven fabric ... not a problem.  You can cut and hem, or have a tailor do it.

Sweater knits, when cut, immediately start unraveling.

You will ruin your sweater if you cut it.

@ALRATIBACould you help with this question?
