Cutting old Barefoot Dreams cardigans?

[ Edited ]

I have some older Barefoot Dreams cardigans that have the longer high low waterfall type front, like this:

I still like the fabric, etc I'm just not crazy about the length on me and when I fold them up I like them.

I'm no seamstress, but I don't want to bother with a tailor. Could I cut them shorter (either straight across or in a shorter high/low) without hemming, just leave a raw edge or will it fray?

I don't care if it's not perfect because will mostly if not always just wear at home. Has anyone tried doing something like this?

You should call or email Barefoot Dreams about this ?. They are the experts.

I'm not a seamstress but I would be afraid it would fall apart.   If you really like them if might be worthwhile to pay to have them hemmed.  They are so expensive in the first place, then it might be a total loss.

@Group 5 minus 1

They are that Barefoot Dreams "cozy chic" I think they call it and I think they're made of some sort of a polyester microfiber. Doesn't seem like a sweater knit, but like I say I'm no seamstress and have no clue about fabrics and sewing.

I just don't find myself ever reaching for them (which is a waste) and I think it's because they are just too long and are in the way and I don't feel like they look as good as they could if they were shorter and I'm a "do it yourselfer" sort. (long run-on sentence, I know, I'm bad about that....sorry)

Thanks ya'll...

They curl up & ravel. Not good materials to cut.

Sweater knits, when cut, immediately start unraveling.

You will ruin your sweater if you cut it.

@ALRATIBA Could you help with this question?

@GingerHead  since you are a self-described do it yourself type and you dont want to go to a seemstress, why not try first using hemming tape or fabric glue instead of cutting? ( hows that for a run-on sentence lol). You can always try cutting as a last resort.

@LizzieInSRQ : If this is sweater, you CANNOT cut a sweater. As I said it will ravel all to heck and she will have strings of yarn all over the garment.

Also edited to add: I don't think a pro seamstress would touch this.
