A man in Massachusetts called his son in California a few days before Christmas and said, "Your mom and I are getting divorced. Nothing anyone can do about it. We're miserable. I don't want to talk about it anymore, so you call your sister in Oregon and tell her."

The son calls his sister, tells her the news, and sister says, "They are not getting a divorce; I'm calling them right now. They can't do anything until we get there." She calls the parents, tells them not to do anything rash, and that both kids will be there the next day.

After hanging up with his daughter, he turns to his wife and says, "Well, they're both coming home for Christmas and they're paying their own way!"

I might try this on my son who lives in Minnesota!
