I bought a gorgeous all leather Coach Duffle bag in 2012 when they were trying to move away from the outlet look. I love that bag though I didn't use it much last year. I'll have to dig it out!

I read an article recently that lauded Coach's rebranding efforts as a success. It said that the decision to get rid of their lower priced merchandise to focus on more upscale offerings allowed the company to pivot when other brands like Michael Korsdid not. As a result, the brand was able to bounce back so to speak.
The decision to buy other brands allows Coach to diversify and mitigate risk. Having a portfolio will help to keep it in business. I love all my Coach bags and I do miss being able to buy from their online outlet store. I got some really good deals. They seem to have recognized when the whole outlet thing was about to go bust and left that market on a timely basis. Kenneth Cole, unfortunately, was one brand that did not. They had to close a lot of stores and the brand is nothing like how it used to be.

About ten years ago I became compulsive about collecting Coach Willis Bags I have at least a half dozen in various colors but never use them.
When I was in college majoring in art education, we had to do a leather project. The handbag I designed and executed in wine leather was almost identical to what eventually became the Willis Bag, so I had a special interest in it.

In case you didn't know, the Outlets in all brands offer completely different lower end merchandise. Many consumers are under the impression that Outlets sell overflow from the main stores but that is not the case. I love Kate Spade and I can tell Outlet merchandise from their boutiques a mile away. I only buy from their main boutiques! A note to the person who commented that younger women don't have the $400 plus to spend on bags, well your mistaken. They have careers and want beautiful high end things. One of the reasons Coach purchased Kate Spade is because Kate Spade has more business from the younger women than Coach. Though Kate Spade attracts all ages. I just hope that Coach doesn't make a mess of Kate Spade.

Oh me too! I am a KS fanatic! Whatever I can find KS I buy! I guess if KS pulls a change in its name then we'll have some pretty fantastic collector items in our possession.

I read there's been public ridicule of the Coach corporate rebranded name to Tapestry. I agree with the public sentiment. I wonder how many Coach corporate types it took to come up with that stupid name?

I don't get the change, Coach has been around for a long time and I didn't perceive a loss in value or brand. Sounds like a bad move.

@Kachina624 Did you ever suspect that a fellow student, or even an instructor, stole your prototype......and sold it?

Some outlets do offer only lower end, made for the outlets items. But some outlets have a mix of that lower end merchandise and overflow from the stores.
I have a KS bag from a KS boutique and I have a KS bag from the KS outlet. Personally while I like both bags, I absolutely love my KS bag from the outlet. It is at least 5 years old, probably older, and it's a bag I have carried through the fall and winter every year since I purchased it. It still looks like it's brand new and to this day I still get compliments on it even though it's pretty much a basic black handbag. I buy what I like and what will suit my needs and if that's a Target bag or an outlet bag, it doesn't matter to me.
I'm not really sure why some posters on this board get the feeling that younger women don't have money to spend on higher end items. I guess if by young women they are thinking 21, then no, they probably don't typically have the money to spend.

@Danielle46I totally agree with you. My mall had a Coach boutique that I loved. I made some friends by going in there. They closed it and now have a huge outlet in the mall. They only have things that are made specifically for the outlets which you can tell is not the same quality. They do get some full price from Jax or boutiques that they haven't sold. That is when I purchase from an outlet. As far as the younger woman not spending that much I've seen the bags they carry and they are $400 and above. The career ladies like their nice handbags.
