I'm looking at some items on line and it steams me that they use terms that don't really describe a color.
Case: "Midnight"! Black or deep navy? If I COULD tell from the photo, I wouldn't care.
Crocus: an orange? pink? orange-pink??? WHAT????
Grrrrr......
Ever got the wrong color because if this practice?

@ECBG Agree. The two I had the most are midnight and ink.

I bought a Calvin Klein top today. I thought it was an interesting color. The hang tag said "cocoa"....and it definitely was NOT. It's something like what various vendors call "mushroom", or "elephant".

The one that I find most annoying is the high end denim vendor who names the different colors of light, medium or dark wash by actual names - recent one I can think of was a medium wash called "Decker". Are they naming them after random employees or what? At least attempt an actual color name.

I guess they are trying to make the clothing sound more interesting or exciting by giving the colors different or exotic names! If they do this, then they should say something like -- this top comes in crocus -- then give a description like --- it is like the color of a freshly picked orange --- or something like that!

Yes yes yes so frustrating.

@ECBG I "hate" these color names, especially if ordering online. I wanted a black jacket called licorice and it turned out dark charcoal...licorice is always black (or red) in my book.

Every single shade of every color in each line at QVC must have its own name so customers can match previously purchased items. Everything in the SG line in hyacinth will be exactly the same shade. That's why you never see just plain "purple". Try and think of names for 2,453 shades of purple and see how original and descriptive you can be.
