Do you have a set yearly budget for clothes in your family per month or annually? Mine has been a monthly budget but I seem to go much longer before making purchases so I am planning set an amount for two larger purchase times. I generally shop about this time with tax free weekend and in January. I have boys in college and this seems like a better plan.

I used to just go shopping for something to do and impulse buy what I liked and wanted.

Now, I only buy what I need and hardly ever spend money on clothing.  I find myself replacing worn out bras and shoes most often

SInce I am an adult and don't  "grow" out of clothing and I buy basic pieces, I spend very little money a year and have no budget.

It's difficult to not just spend, spend like I used to, but in general, this type of life style change is so much better.  I wear what I own and don't have too many pieces just taking up space in my closet.

@RhondaRenaI work with an annual amount in mind even though I shop just for me. I have the same amount of money every month, but some months different categories have to take precedence and some categories just have to wait.

I did my summer buying earlier this year, but with July almost over, I'm happy to have spent less than $6 on clothing and accessories.  I know things will even out as I fill in for fall.  I'm in charge and will make certain of that.  I think it's harder to do for a whole family, but I can't imagine living a budget with "walls" telling me I have to spend my discretionary income only within that time frame.

No. I'm single with no dependents so that is not a concern for me.

I am pretty good about not buying in excess & I'm a skilled bargain shopper (it is my favorite sport!) so I get good deals most of the time. I usually buy based on need; I'm not an impulse shopper.

No.  Nothing specific.  I mean I don't say I have X amount to spend this year and when I reach that amount, I'm done.  If I need something, I buy it but I'm also frugal.  Almost everything I buy I buy on sale, with few exceptions.  I don't spend a lot per piece of clothing for the most part.  I will spend on shoes that I'm going to wear a lot, like black pumps.  I will spend a lot on a winter coat that I'm going to wear almost everyday during the winter.

Sometimes I'll spend more than I probably should on something because I like it and want it.  LOL  But those times are few and far between.  I would have no idea how much I spend per year on clothes.

A specific amount, no.

I buy what I like and what I need.   I'm practical about my purchases    I get a lot of use out of my clothes and keep them a long time.   I don't buy junk that only lasts a season.   I usually never pay full price either unless I know it will never go on sale and I have to have it.

Handbags are another story - that's my weakness.   Lol

@willdob3  I'm working from a capsule wardrobe of basic, high priced items. I only purchase something really special that fits well with what I already own. I don't like clutter in my closet, so my purchases don't require a budget. I also bargain shop when possible.

No, but then I don't spend $50 for a t-shirt or $100 for a "hoodie."

No I don't work from a budget, but I really need to.  I love clothes and buy way too many - always have since when I was a young girl  Colors and material call to me.  However, after seeing my closets and dressers overflowing even tho I cull through often and donate and consign I am making a very serious effort to curb my clothing spending as I have mentioned in other posts in this forum.  I just started this year with June when I decided I really need to get a handle on the amount of clothes I buy and I have done well in June and July -  $206 in June and $150 in July.  That is extraorodinary for me.  Hopefully I can continue when the Fall clothes come out as they are my favorite.  I am approaching retirement so it should be easier as I am no longer tempted by clothes necessary for a work wardrobe.  Just interested in casual clothes.   Children grown and on their own and DH buys his own clothes and has always been more frugal than me.  He buys good clothes but not many.  So I only have to work on my own spending.  Sidelight - although I didn't buy many clothes this summer, I did buy a Carolyn Cuff bracelet in London Blue Topaz and an Or Paz Ring in London Blue Topaz, both of which were something I had on my list of needs - that is sterling in London Blue.
