@Love my grandkids wrote:@Iwantcoffee There are many dresses that show a little cleavage and that's fine. I don't think it's appropriate for a **teenager** to have half-bare breasts for a dressy occasion.
And not ALL young girls wear those dresses, as I know from what I've seen.
@Love my grandkids They were worn and will be worn. No, not all girls wear them. Many do. No one is saying every eighteen year old is wearing these dresses. Some of them are though, that's why they're for sale.

@gertrudecloset IMO I think that young and healthy high school girls should wear what ever they are confident in. By high school Junior/Senior prom, many of these girls already have jobs and are working. Yes, they may be a little awkward in their probably first outting all dressed up, but that is how they learn about life, isn't it?
Also, if a girl is inherently sexy and has curves, what can she do about that? She is what she is. It's more of adults that will point that out to her with their tsk tsk-ing and judgment.
I say leave them be and have some young fun. If their parents can handle it, so can I. It's actually wonderful to see prom outfits of both the girls AND the boys. Such a wonderful rite of passage that schools offer.

You read my mine. These are young women (not children). After school jobs and such; earning money for their look. It's the American way @Queen of shop . Women are supposed to have curves. That's what distinguishes us from men.
I don't know of any young man who wants to take a good looking gal to the prom wearing a sack. It doesn't bother me either. I went through this prom thing (matching cumberbands and such) with my son and his prom date 14 years ago. This is the 21st Century we can't turn back the hands of time.

Those are grown women in those prom dresses although girls like to go glam for the prom.

I love the pastels without the high slits, and I love the chiffon skirts. So pretty and youthful.

@chessylady Yes. Not sure why junior's aren't modeling. When you look at the sizing for the ones I've posted they are junior sizing though. Macy's, Dillards, Bloomingdales and one place just for proms (forget website). They are sized for juniors.
Then of course some girls need women's sizing. But I think they should show jr modeling.

As a parent you do your best to arm your child with self-confidence, pride and self-discipline. Knowledge is power so you don't shelter them from the realities of the world and allow them the room to be who they are.
My daughter went through some, we'll call them interesting, styles of dress but she was also a straight A student, Honor Society, star of the debate team etc. You pick your battles carefully

I think the high slit is not appropriate for a 17 year old girl. The other dresses are fine. Yes, times have changed. Definitely showing more skin and wearing skin tight. That red dress looks like it is on an older woman.
