Question regarding building a casual wardrobe. My lifestyle is more casual than ever before; part-time, post-retirement job on campus and husband will retire soon as well. His wardrobe will change significantly. While purchasing more casual clothes, I found button-down cotton tops or Henley knits are preferred. 3/4 tops are good for all seasons. I don't look good in tee shirts, except for workouts. Accumulating stylish, knit, zip-front hooded jackets as well. Would appreciate your thoughts: What's your wardrobe answers to adjusting to a more casual lifestyle? Interested in reading your answers. Thank you.

Talbots! They are perfect for me and the lifestyle we live in retirement. They have great pants and tops, and colorful flats to match. They also carry over color families from season to season so your wardrobe can be updated year to year and still have matching items from previous years.

Do you like dresses or skirts?

You sound like you know exactly what you are doing and what you like and prefer. I am 63, retired too, and wear things that are comfy but not sloppy, fit well and to some degree, stylish, with a few of the current styles. But I wear them for many seasons and don't buy for every new thing that comes down the pike. I look for sales too. I do go thru my wardrobe and weed out the stuff I haven't worn in a year--that helps alot.

I never had to really adjust to a more casual lifestyle as casual has been how I always dressed. I just bought whatever I liked and since I usuallly only wear jeans (all different styles) never had a problem. I could dress them up or down depending. I did, however, go out and buy many pairs of sweats and way more cutoff shorts since they are my go to most days but I had many varieties of tees and tops to go with anything.

I don't know where you live. I live in Florida - capris, birkis, some shorts, all cotton tops to breathe in the heat and the ever present sundress with a elbow sleeve light-weight cotton jacket. I have an arsenal of sundresses and those cotton little jackets. You can dress it up with some colorful jewelery, cute sandals and go anywhere. Pretty much what I wear. I don't even have to think about it, those little cotton cover-up jackets and a sundress works everytime, whether to the symphony or lunch at Grills at Port Canaveral.

wagirl -- You expressed what I was thinking -- I don't want to look sloppy. I do go to a casual church, so jeans are good there. Also go to gym at least 3 times a week. Enjoy a great pair of versatile atleisure pants - gym to grocery store type
lolakimono - I've gotten away from dresses and skirts but will try this for warmer months. Thank you. We're also hoping to have extended winter vacations in warm weather in the future.
Living in central Mid-west, four seasons, I have a good supply of knit cardigans, vests and boyfriend-type jackets that work with jeans, scarf and accessories. It's 60 degrees and above weather I'm working on. I have a few friends who have gone from corporate wear to tee shirts every day. Not my style. Not criticising them.
Sooner suggested Talbots. We have a store close to where I work. I'll certainly check it out. Thank you. Used to shop at Macy's, but not finding what I want lately. May need to check out Dillards again. Looking at Coldwater Creek online as well as new Soft Surroundings shop in our city. I do purchase Demin & Company from QVC -- can wear these clothes for many seasons.
Enjoying your answers - thank you - Jean
