I knew it was coming, our very first (of many, I'm sure) where's Carolyn post. 

@April of NY   Briefly, QVC had a layoff and Carolyn and Dan Huges were among the 400 laid off. I feel certain they were offered a retirement incentive so they're both gone, along with some other employees of retirement age and many who were not.

@SingingLady Absoloutely not so.  Fired...you're out the door.  Laid off, severance package, as well as sometimes health insurance for awhile, along with other perks that might be in one's severance package.

After a month and so much discussion and analysis,  I'm surprised that some still don't grasp a "firing" vs a "layoff."

There is an enormous, profound difference.
