I once bought many clothes from Nordstrom, but my last clothing purchase was one top in 2015 unless you count one silk scarf and 2 bras.

I don't know who their clients are, but they must be close to 100% online; they could close their store near me and no one would even notice.

I LOVE Nordstroms.  Unfortunately, they would never make it here.  Too many discount shoppers.  

Dillards which sells beautiful suits has been having a hard time here.  

Bankers, savings companies employees, and a few other careers wear suits, in general, the "world no longer wears suits".

@ECBG  even before the pandemic, the sales associate I used almost always just shook her head about the merchandise she was given to sell where as before 2015 once I picked out what I wanted to try on, she pulled more either from her department or even from the more spendy area across the aisle.

She was pretty much the only clothing SA I used from the time I began to shop that Nordstrom in 2003 until just before the pandemic.

She has not returned.  I believe that is her choice because there are WE ARE HIRING signs all over the store.  Not much to sell and not many customers though.  Sad for my kind of shopper.   I need and want very few new clothes and I am finding them elsewhere
