In no way are PJs appropirate in any public place. Hotel restaurants are public places. Not the same as one's home. Especially overseas. Virtually every other society wears approriate outerwear. It is disheartening to realize when one is visiting someone else's country and home- the people parading around in PJs and slippers are-- by far and away Americans. We are currently in Marrakesh- actually overheard a French couple making fun of a group of Yanks dressed at breakfast like they were in their dorm rooms...
The point is- one represents all of us with our dress and behavior. And it often isn't stellar. I would rather be proud to be identified as American than embarrassed.
@NHJon I totally agree! I feel that it's not appropriate.

Just because other people feel comfortable going out in their PJs doesn't mean that I do. I feel that it's inappropriate and lazy, particularly for adults. It might be cute on young children.
When I'm out in public anywhere I need to fix my hair and wear basic makeup or I'm not going in public anywhere without making myself look presentable.

People flat out do not care what they look like or have on when they go out albeit hotel/motel, lowe's, grocery store even church.
You don't need to be in the hotel lobby for a continental breakfast to check out the pj's they wore last night, go to your local grocery store, same attire shlepping around as they just literally rolled out of bed because they just did! Did they even brush their teeth prior to going to the store? And they're stinky too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
EGAD I SAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not a fan of wearing nightclothes in public anywhere. Guess my age is showing. I'm just not a fan of ignoring attention to your look while going out in public. I have a friend who goes to our local Lowe's in her pajamas with no makeup and her hair not combed. I just wasn't raised this way. My mother used to wear "house dresses" around the house on the weekends. I can't imagine her wearing even those out in public. Different times...

@ECBG If it's a breakfast room with tables and chairs, why would you be lazy to eat it there? Much easier to eat at a table than in a hotel room.
I was referring to being in pajamas in the public area.
It was stated this is a very nice hotel; most hotels have a small coffee table with a small love seat or two chairs next to a table with a lamp on one ind of the room. I have seen many and you at least have a table between beds for the room phone or bed side table for singles.

I don't understand this sentence. If I don't take breakfast back to my room, I'm lazy? @ECBG
The question was about going to a public area in pajamas.

I think if was a problem for the hotel they would have rules about it. I'm now trying to think about my last few trips and I can't remember if anyone had on pjs... I'm looking around now at the one I'm at and no pjs. Good waffles however!😊

But they aren't "at their house" they are in public. BIG DIFFERENCE.
They look like they just rolled out of bed and haven't showered yet which is no doubt the case. ICK. I would never do that.

What, it is a buffet breakfast with doors to the pool why would I want to take the food back to my room . I am handicapped currently and breakfast is one of the few times I have to get out of the room and change the air in my lungs.

@ECBG Yes, I do know what hotels rooms look like. From average ones to luxurious ones. I've traveled the world and stayed in many. I still prefer the dining area if there is one. And I don't go out anywhere in sleep ware.
