Brahmin Question

I recently purchased a "like new" brahmin on ebay. For the most part I am very happy with it. I feel it is an authentic handbag. The only thing that bothers me is the brass logo with the "ship." It is starting to become black in spots. Does brass do this? It looks pitted. I have another brahmin I purchased from NM and that bag is 10 years young and it's brass tag looks like the day I bought it. This bag smells like leather, is embossed made in the USA, has perfect stitching, so I really think this is the real thing. Has anyone else had trouble with the brass?
