My son and grandchildren are invited to an event that says "Black and White semi formal attire." What exactly does that mean? What should my son and 6yo grandboy wear and my grand girls are 12 and 8.
TIA
Love,
Memaw

wisegeek dot org has a good section on what constitutes semi-formal attire.

Your son should wear a black suit. The 6 year old boy can wear a pair of pants with white shirt.
The girls could wear dresses or a dressy skirt and top. At the hairdresser, one of the younger girls had a darling black lace skirt. The 12 year old would get a lot of wear out of something like that.
A lot depends on the type of event and the time of day. If it is a night time event it is dressier than a day time event.
