Here's an interesting and thought-provoking article from The NY Times. It's long, but worth the time.
Here's the link:

Thank you for that article @handygal2! I think high heels will always be popular. They are beautiful, and some lucky gals can walk in them so well. Sadly, I'm not one of those people, but I've always wished I could master the art of walking in a pair of classic suede pumps. I think it is true that women opt for more comfortable shoes than they used to.

Bless you if you can wear heels and especially if you can wear really high ones. I can't do a very high heel - not more than 2.5 inches and preferably 2 or less. My feet have lost some of their padding on the bottom and they have widened in the forefoot and narrowed in the heel so a lot of pumps and shoes do not fit very well -- i.e. I can't walk in them so I can't wear them.
I think male shoe designers, shoe manufacturers, shoe buyers and the rest for the most part are not thinking of women's feet and what is and isn't wearable when they are designing their fantasy shoes. But ever notice how many really high heels that aren't wearable are on the clearance racks at stores? Tons of them. And people aren't buying them either.

Human feet were not designed To be forced into a pointed shape with severe strain on the ball and toes. If worn a lot, your feet will be ruined. Say hello to bunions, hammer toes and other dysfunctions.
But women were them... Go figure. I did wear them a bit when I was young and looking for a mate, but haven’t for the last 25 yrs. Happy to report my feet are in perfect shape, so I’m glad about my choices!

Eh. Flats hurt my feet. I waddle when I walk in flats or barefoot. In heels, I walk better. I can run, do stairs and kickbox in heels of differnt heights. The ONLY flats I wear are Birkenstocks' Gizeh as the are the only style that my feet can tolerate (Birkenstocks). I don't find them to be anything but super casual and not that attractive.
I'll stick with my emoji of the high heel; other can use the flat. It's all about choice.

I have very wide feet, cankles, and no arch. If I try and do anything above 1.5 inches, it's not comfortable and I'm such a twinkletoes I'll fall. Wide feet that swell as the day goes on do not look attractive at all in heels, so I stay far away from them. A lot of them are very pretty and I wish I could wear them, but I'll do without broken bones thank you!

A long article about high heels isn't worth reading for me...lol High heels are a fashion staple for women and they aren't going anywhere. We love our high heels. However, some of the ridiculously high and un-walkable heels might be leaving the building.
