I am the oldest person in our office and I mentioned growing up with milkman delivering milk to the house, had an insulated box on porch you left a list of what you wanted and the money and he left it. Same with bread. The Stroehman bread truck came around and he came to the door to see if you needed anything. Bread, rolls, cupcakes etc. Co-workers looked at me like I was nuts. This was in the 50's. I grew up in the city where the Little League World Series is held. I live in the country now and it's 3 miles one way to a convenience store for bread or milk. At least 10 miles to a regular grocery store. Some days home delivery sounds good.

Yes ~ My Grandmother had an insulated metal box on her back porch. Left a list and money in the box or Milk, eggs, butter....This was in Minnesota. The Milk Man was dressed just like the ones you see in the old B&W family TV shows. White uniform and a hat.

I remember milk delivery as a little girl. Our area also had it in Florida in the late 70's.

My dad was the bread man, so he always brought home what we needed, even as he progressed up to & through the management jobs.

Yes, we also used to have our milk delivered. Pretty much everyone in the neighborhood had a milk box on their front porch. In even earlier years, houses had a little door next to either the front or back door, sort of like a pet door, where the milkman would reach in to remove the empty bottles & leave the order. Speaking of bottles, I sure do miss getting cold drinks in bottles; seems like they stayed cold longer in glass.

We were in suburban Atlanta in the '50's and through the 60's. We always had R. L. Mathis Dairy deliver our milk - in quart size glass bottles with at least an inch of cream on the top. It was absolutely wonderful. Milk has never been the same since. There was no bread delivery, but it was enough just to have that wonderful milk!.

We did have a "vegetable man" who came around twice a week with fresh things he had gotten at the Farmers Market that morning. Always a marvelous selection,and all the best produce I've ever found. How I miss that! Never anything that wonderful at the local groceries we've been near.

And dry cleaning was picked up and delivered. We had fewer wash and wear things in those days.

We didn't have a bread man but we had the milkman deliver to our house until the late 60's.

Yes, and remember the fat on top of the milk! We also got eggs, butter and juice as well. No breadman though. Ha, good old days!

Yes definitely recall the milk man delivering and we also had a metal container by the door.

As for the bread that was brought home every night fresh from the bakery.

I remember our milk box out front. We also had a butcher that drove around our neighborhood, too. You walked onto his truck to select items. We also had the Charlie Chip man who came around with snacks and refilled my dad's large potato chip can. This was in the mid to late 1960's. We lived in a suburban neighborhood, and this was a time when a lot of families still had just one car (as did ours) and the wives were at home without transportation.

No bread man here either. But we did have a milkman in the 1960's. We had a metal milk box on the front porch. You knew it was a cold day when the milk bottles you just brought inside had ice chunks inside.
