I've never worn a traditional girdle, but wear Spanx on an almost daily basis. I don't feel "put-together" without one. They also make my clothes look and fit better, of course.

You're welcome to all of the girdles in the world, as far as I'm concerned. Girdles are pretty old-timey, but if you like 'em, wear 'em!

Never, I have some broken veins on my upper leg from wearing them in the old days. That said, the garter belts, etc, can be sexy.

I believe that is a garter belt with a corset. A girdle has a crotch, like panties. Yes, I loved them and they, I believe, prevented me ever having varicose veins or so my doctor said. I weighed at least 98 pounds and wore my girdles daily. No panty hose back then and we had the garters inside the girdle, pulled them down to snap onto our nylons, being careful to align the seam without running a railroad up the leg. When nice girdles quit being made, I began having backaches. I wore very high heels, walked a lot on my job and never had varicose veins or backaches as long as my trusty girdles were being sold. Spanx is really bad to cause me to have a fungus, so I cannot wear them. The skin cannot breathe because of the very tight weave. Great idea, but product is faulty and needs some improvement.
