Anthropomorphization of clothing

Does anyone else out there find it disconcerting when folks refer to an item of clothing or something like a handbag as "she"?  Makes me shudder.  Also makes me want to shop less.  It just feels really unhealthy to me to be referring to THINGS as "she."  I just can't find it at all cute.

@JaneyD I'm with you.  It doesn't exactly bother me, but it's jarring to my ear.  It just sounds silly to me.  I may love my handbags, but they're all "its" to me lol.

Cars and Ships, etc. are referred to as "she", so I guess it goes for handbags too, lol.  They are pretty after all, right? Woman Wink

I am suitably impressed that you can spell anthropomorphization.

Yes, it is cringe-worthy to me.  Elevates an object to the status of a person.

All this to say, I am the daughter of a hoarder, to whom her objects were far more precious than her relationship with me.  So, I am hyper-sensitive to this.😢

@JaneyD  I clicked on to this thread just to find out what that word meant! Great word! I do tire of hearing the LOGO lady calling her clothes she.... it is only cute once....after that just irritating.

@TeezNu I appreciate all the responses--even those who disagree with me.  But I especially appreciated yours.  I feel for your situation.  I think referring to things as "she" somehow makes us less human.  Also, I love your closing quote--thanks for that!
