It tells me immediately what the cut and style of the shirt will be so, no, I don't think it's misplaced. The term has been around for a long time.
I'm curious about your comment that I've put in bold. Other designers or fashion vendors use that term. Do you find it funny if someone like Bob Mackie uses it or other men? Or is there just some "reason" you find it "funny" from David Dangle.....? You may not be implying anything, but it sure seems like it.
I was going to let this pass, but I don't like that you seem to be trying (in a passive aggresive way) that I might have a prejudice..............wrong, wrong, wrong. I referred to David only as the spokesman for the line.....referring ONLY TO THE LINE OF CLOTHING! Yes, it IS funny (meaning it made me smile) the first timeI heard the term "boyfriend" referred to an item in the line!
Now I'm getting off of this board before I'm accused of anything else....taking a break! hg

"Boyfriend" is a legitimate fashion term.
Used when typical men's clothing, like an Oxford shirt, are sized & styled for women.
Feel free to Google "boyfriend sweater" or "boyfriend cardigan" or "boyfriend shirt". Go to Macy's or Old Navy & ask where their "boyfriend shirts" are.
Katherine Hepburn made wearing men's clothing styles chic!
Not sure your point but glad you mentioned it, now we all know!

The term "boyfriend" is descriptive of a certain style. We all know exactly how the shirt will look just from hearing that term.

We used to call them "man tailored" shirts. I still refer to them that way ... as opposed to "boyfriend" which I think are oversized "man-tailored" shirts.
Google still recognizes "man tailored" shirts.

Never cared for JR boyfriend shirts. To boxy for me.

I love Joan's items, who you should be talking about is Lori Goldstein. If you want to look like a clown buy Loris clothes.

No, the term is appropriate for the fashions in her line that are labeled "boyfriend." It has to do with the cut & fit, not the age of the person that might wear it.
But, it does originally come from young girls/women wearing clothing belonging to their boyfriends so OP is recalling that correctly. It has just evolved a bit in the fashion industry.

Boyfriend styled clothes don't look so great on me. I've got a small frame & they overwhelm it. I did recently purchase an IM boyfriend cardigan that he designed to be more fitted than regular boyfriend cardigans. It is better but still a bit long for me.
- Tunic length is probably the worst length for me, now that I think about it. Shorter looks good and longer can look good if the item is streamlined and a bit flowy.

No, I've always understood the term "boyfriend" in clothing means "slightly relaxed".

Well, it certainly sounds better than man shirt or man jeans.
