It doesn't bother me. If I'm not in the market yet I just pass on by until I am looking to buy. I certainly don't find it offensive in any way. I can ignore it if I want to.

Christmas is no longer solely a celebration of the birth of Christ, no matter whether people believe it should be. It has become a secular holiday as well - and that isn't going to change or somehow be rendered invalid solely because it isn't strictly Christian.  It is what it has become. Each group who celebrates, in their own way and for their own reasons, is valid.

I agree, with one little change - while Dec 25th specifically was designated as the celebration of the birth of Christ, a non-religious celebration in late Dec has been around much much longer including trees and merriment.

No argument from me ;-) I'm aware of the ancient celebrations. Just didn't want to extra-ruffle feathers.

I do wish they would hold off on the Christmas trees on the sets until after Halloween. I enjoy the Holiday season in consecutive order and rarely plan for Christmas buying until around Thanksgiving, I just love the getting out during the season itself.

I can appreciate your point of view, but I'm one of those folks who love the Christmas in July and the random continuation of the Christmas programming.  I love doing my shopping for both gifts and decor in little bits.  It lets me do all my shopping without using credit to do it.  In addition, I love getting my shopping and decorating done early so I can just sit back and enjoy the season stress free.  I love to just walk the malls without waiting in check-out lines, digging through merchandise hoping to find the size or color or style I want or disappointment because I can't find what I'm looking for.

I realize some folks thrive on the hustle and bustle of the season, but that's just not me.

[ Edited ]

If I'm honest, I don't really enjoy the Christmas shows even during November and December.  The flashlights, kids toys, Poo-porri, and flatware just don't interest me.

The ongoing message that Christmas = gifts makes me weary.

I am however a joyful Christmas girl and I love everything about the season (except the overly commercial parts). I start working on my Christmas cards the day after Thanksgiving and entertain throughout the holidays. I love just being with friends and family and creating a warm/welcoming space.

p.s. I do recognize that QVC is all about selling stuff so I don't fault them for marketing hard for the holidays.  (I just don't watch it)

This is me. I prefer to buy over the months for all those reasons, and I too like to be able to enjoy the mall festiveness without feeling the pressure of as yet unbought gifts.

QVC could start offering "holiday gifts" from July on, never mentioning Xmas or decorating their sets, and people would complain about that too.  "What do you MEAN, 'holiday gifts'? *I'm*  only interested in buying gifts for X holiday. If that isn't the holiday *I* want to buy for, QVC should just STOP IT."

I think what the OP means is, back in the "old days", "Christ"mas was a celebration of the birth of Christ, December 25th.  Instead of a 2 - 3 week celebration commemorating the birth of Christ, it has now "morphed" into a shopping spree 365 days a year, which is an abberation of it's original intent.

We know what she meant - we are saying that for true Christians this is such a Holy time that commercialization can't ruin it for us. Though they try as they may - it is a RELIGIOUS holiday for some of us first and foremost.

QVC's sales strategy as it pertains to Christmas is disgusting.  To start in July is unbelievable even for a pushy retailer.  I deliberately never purchase gifts from the Q for that reason.

I love it!!   No retailer is going to ruin any holiday for me.   It's always my prerogative to tune out.

Re: AM I THE ONLY ONE DISMAYED WITH CHRISTMAS SELLING BEFORE HALLOWEEN??

Having left a position at a major anchor store two weeks ago, I had been looking at boxes of Christmas Trees since late September.  For stores to get in enough product, they need to accept vendor shipments.  It is counter productive to have a large area on the floor open, so as seasonal items come in, like coats, they'll be right next to bathing suit leftovers until that area depleats and coats gradually take over.  Our store got in about 200 "Z" bars, (those ultra long bars you sometimes see on the floor with new items) several times a week which had to go out on the floor.  The dock has to stay clear for incoming shipments and there isn't a large amount of storage anywhere.  It's all selling space to give you the choices you want.  It's in our back hall ways as far as the fire marshall allows.  That's what is going on.  They have to put items somewhere!

I don't like seeing those items either and got to see them every day!  LOL!!!

Re: AM I THE ONLY ONE DISMAYED WITH CHRISTMAS SELLING BEFORE HALLOWEEN??

It is much more convenient for me to buy decor and so forth before Halloween.  I decorate early because November and December are just crazy busy for me.  In fact, I will start clearing out my autumn decor in a few days and begin to put up some winter decorations.  I just bought some white snowflake ornaments yesterday, along with a basket to fill with birch branches, greenery, and white, snowy themed items.  I'll chuck in some red ornaments closer to Christmas.

White candles on silver mercury glass pedestals, greenery, favorite editions of classic Christmas books, and some winter themed sleigh prints will replace the current art on the walls and in my bookcase.

The tree won't go up for a few more weeks, but I need to get moving to get everything else done soon!

Winter comes early in the mountains and snow is forecast for Tuesday.  I host family and friends often through the holidays.  Decorating now lets me focus on food, deep cleaning my home, and activities for my guests before they actually arrive.

I appreciate the early availability of Christmas/winter decor I don't understand how that can inconvenience anyone.

Re: AM I THE ONLY ONE DISMAYED WITH CHRISTMAS SELLING BEFORE HALLOWEEN??

I understand what is being said here and the real meaning of Christmas has been lost to the retail world.  I don't think we will ever change that except in our own homes.  I do also like to look at the bright side of every issue.  There are many families with children that do not have the money for Christmas trees, gifts, etc.   They can purchase before Thanksgiving by putting items in layaway and pay along. They have 8 weeks only before the special day arrives.  This assists those that can't pay in full to get their Christmas items for their families.  If the items are not out in stores, they could not have this length of time to make payments to ensure that Santa brings all their children have asked for and to ensure they have trees etc.   Yes,  I would like to see the commercial aspect of Christmas gone but we all know those days are over.   We can only teach our children from home what the day actually means.  I respect the fact that schools have such a diversity of religions they have to respect all holidays for all children.   We are all as one family regardless of our religious beliefs.  Love one another and we will have PEACE.   Happy Holidays!!
