Every marking period, in the final weeks our school improvement coach sends out data sheets, which show how many failures exist schoolwide, by teacher, by department, by SPED, etc. Our job as DCs is to have "coaching conversations" about what we see.
My intern had 75 failures a few weeks ago, and he was #3 schoolwide in 100+ teachers for the amount of failures.
I monitor his Google Classroom comments/notes, and many of the students were "doing" the work but didn't see their grades change. I turned it over to the gradebook coach to make sure everything was "kosher' since I only have viewing privileges in the gradebook and I can't make any changes to "play" with the data.
She contacted the expert grader at the BOE who reviewed his grades and could not find any problems with the category weights.
I spend a few hours with him on a meet the other day to balance his grades by converting the 0s to 50s. I noticed that some of the grades were not going up. Then we took a test student and changed the grade of an assessment from a 0 to a 10 and nothing.
I DID find the problem, which was at the beginning of the marking period he created a category "classwork" which does not exist in our syllabus. The e-team found this error and it was corrected. So the category that should exist was there AND he was putting grades into it, but the erroneous category of "classwork" was listed as the "active" category and so the 25% category used for 21st century sklls was not being calculated.
I have no idea what is going to happen, because not only was 25% of their grade not calculated, but he only had 3 grades in that category instead of 4.

On Thursday afternoon, while attending to the grading Dumpster fire, he got an email from a different admin, who is going to conduct a FORMAL observation next Thursday. That is typical, where there is one week's notice. He will have to turn in the plan on Wednesday and have his pre-conference.
Getting him prepared for his university supervisor's observation can take us working together about 8 hours over multiple days because he is VERY slow with tech.
In the meantime, his university portfolio is also due, with artifacts. Right now he has about 15 to add, and he said that each one takes an hour to write up. His university supervisor said this is due next week- no extensions!
I spent time this week corresponding with her and yesterday I met with the new teacher coach and told her what to help with on Monday. I spent from 2-5 with him on a meet yesterday.
In the meantime, I have to do my plans for next week.

@lolakimono Lots of paperwork/computer work for sure. Please remember, as a teacher, you didn't Fail them. If after all the contact with guardians and working with the student they continued to not do the work, they FAILED themselves. Painfully this isn't accepted or realized by a student until a certain level of maturity is reached.

In my defense, I'm at the tail end of an antibiotic that makes my face swell up!
So, I thing it gave me brain fog too!
seriously!
and... to make matters worse, Thursday at 3 am I was awakened by a very irritating high-pitched "chirp" in my room. It sounds like a piece of construction equipment as it is backing up.
So I couldn't sleep/migraine/nausea
then I picked up and brought home a package that was not mine!

Good morning ...
I'm way late ... but that's okay because I have absolutely nothing exciting to talk about, anyway ... unless you want to hear about watching the grass grow.
I called my remaining sister to wish her a happy birthday, and we made tentative plans for an outdoor lunch sometime before my birthday this summer. It will be the first time seeing each other in over a year.
I ordered and received one of the two colors of these Earth sandals ...
they were on lunchtime specials a few weeks ago so the investment is minimal (the other color is lark blue, I believe it's called)
Also received this shirt from JC (final sale at addition 60% off) ... love the color ... should go well with white pants for summer ...
